If City have plans to put a hotel on the collar site I think you can rest assured it will not be like the one Rat boy owns at the swamp. Anything City /ADUG build on that site will be the best of type.

Of course I have no doubt it would be superior, I meant in general terms of it being a football themed hotel. If this is true I would imagine City offering the full package e.g stadium and campus tour, stay in the hotel before match day, tickets for the match etc. Would be popular with first time visitors wanting the full City experience.
 
I remember Horton and the Coventry game, was a draw, don't think we'd won a game up to that point that season, and remember asking my dad who the effing hell (well I was a kid so maybe more like who the flipping hell) was Brian Horton and some blues overheard and laughed syaing they were wondering the same!

Reading about the Colin Bell and Kippax stands few pages back, about minor alterations and "wrap arounds" so spirals would be inside and makes perfect sense to me. I got tickets in the South East corner, below score board, for a cup game couple of years back (was the defeat to rags with Kompany nonsense sending off but will brush over that!) and to get to the seats had to walk through some of the hospitality in that stand, saw inside a few of the boxes and was surprised to see how small they were for such a modern stadium. Also been in the Mancunian suite for couple of youth cup games and again it isn't huge. Well designed to make most of the space, but I did expect bigger to be fair.

It's a well designed stadium but the corporate areas I've seen certainly aren't spacious, or spacious enough for such an impressive stadium especially if we are talking it being one of the biggest in the country. So makes perfect and logical sense they would want to expand the space for corporate in these stands, probably re-do the roof and add some more seating at same time too. I definitely expect this will happen but probably the next thing on list after North Stand, hopefully to coincide with collar site development.

Compares this to my earlier days match experience. Meet up in the pub at 11.00 for a couple of pints, bus ride to Bury, electric train to Manc Victoria, little bus to Picadilly, bus to the ground, hot dog, after game another hot dog, pubs in Manchester, pubs in Bury finish off with pubs in Rammy and then to the chippy for supper. Change out of a tenner including programme. I am getting old. :-)

as its a massive thread, does anyone know if there is a recent photo of the stadium taken from either the east or west that shows the new south stand with the rest of the stadium from a ground level? a page number will do or a ball park number so i can go looking. just what to try and do a vector image but cant image all the detail.

is there such a photo in the thread? help is appreciated!

haha well I'm sure if they want to mix with the natives they are welcome to take a trip down to Mary D's and grab a hotdog on the way ;)

I don't have a page number offhand, but I'd try a search on jrb within the thread. It'll increase your chances enormously.

My name is Brian Houghton (pronounced Horton). After the Coventry game I kept hearing my name mentioned and in the end I had to ask somebody what was going on before I became paranoid!!! Was interviewed by the BBC at Swindon Town after a mate told them my name. Not sure if this was his first game in charge or not.

Yes it was, on the Wednesday night after the Coventry game.
 
Looking forward to seeing how much finishing off work has been done since the Watford game.

No mention of the leisure destination on the Collar site!

They must have a good and reliable source to put that information into the public domain.

Manchester is the chosen one to lead the northern renaissance and create an economic powerhouse.

In the usual cynical approach to such grand visions, there are many sceptics but the government has now chosen Mancunian Jim O’Neill to lead the charge.

An ideal appointment, with his vast international experience through Goldman Sachs, O’Neill (soon to be Lord O'Neill) has a willing audience for the effort and a well established business community to work with.

Apart from the substantial success of Peel’s MediaCity in Salford Quays which has given the city world class media facilities, the high profile improvement in Manchester is pumping life into central residential development, some of which will be high rise.

According to JLL, plans are in the pipeline for 12 towers containing 4,450 homes in a city which is due to grow by 20% over the next 20 years. At the moment over 2,300 residential units are under construction in Manchester. It has become a profitable business with prices rising to a top of £425 a sq.ft.

The commercial market underpins this optimism with strong take up and new development, one of which is a plan for a 92,900 sq.metres (1 million sq.ft.) office campus in a redevelopment area around Manchester City Football Club’s Etihad stadium.

The scheme is being worked on by the city council and football club owners, Abu Dhabi United Group.

As part of the scheme a large amount of ageing industrial stock will be refurbished. As elsewhere in Manchester the arrival of a new Metrolink station will help the scheme. There are now seven Metrolink lines with 92 stations and more to come.

Such are the attractions of Manchester that IP Global predicts it is the front runner for domestic and international investors and will compete with London as prices are predicted to rise by 22.2% in the next three years. This is helped by 65 of the FTSE 100 top listed companies having offices in the city and the commitment of the government to invest £7 billion there is part of the creation of the northern powerhouse.

Chris Mulcahy Director at JLL in Manchester commented “Manchester has consistently outperformed the other major regional cities in terms of office takeup activity. Coupling the activity in Manchester with the northern powerhouse plan and improved connectivity across the region pledged as part of the Northern Transport Strategy, the city’s market will continue to strengthen significantly if the UK and world economies hold up”.
