Media bias against City

No it does not prove anything either way, because all fans feel the same, but it should make people consider their opinion more robustly. However that point was just a counter argument to you associating political bias as proof football bias could also exist. Similarly it proves nothing either way.

What is suggested on this forum is wide scale collusion, corruption within the context of the media, FA, Uefa, Sky and personally I do not think we are that important or the benefits of undermining us is worth the risk to those organisations involved.

The argument we do not get treated like United, Liverpool could be argued by pretty much every club in the football pyramid with regards exposure. Even if this was true it does not prove bias, agenda against us. It would be no different in germany, spain etc

The issue of respect is intriguing. If true is it based on deference to the established order, ex-players in the press, or as widely argued click bait for the masses?

I have always had my doubts regarding this. I find it difficult yo believe thousands of top four fans click on negative articles about City to make it a worthwhile business model. Is their any evidence of this? Personally I think a united article either positive or negative would receive more interest and that is how I think the press works.

Case in point being Mourinho and Wenger. You have highlighted those clubs as being part of the establishment with the majority of world fans. So if the press had this bias towards them, and they had to protect their revenue streams, click bait etc how do you explain the continual criticism this year. In fact Wenger is the most maligned manager every year?

If it was true these Clubs receive favourable press, based on revenues, click bait, surely thousands of chelsea and arsenal fans are switching off, reducing paper sales, advertising revenues as we speak. So why are the papers criticing these clubs now? If what is suggestedis true those papers are cutting their own throat financially at the minute. How do you explain this?

Similarly last year LVG was ridiculed, as was Moyes previously based on the common argument this would not happen as paper, advertising revenues would fall.

We'll have to disagree about the fans of other top 4 clubs clicking on negative City articles, because you've only got to look at the comments section of any City article in the Mirror, the Fail or even the Grauniad, to see that there are more rags, dippers and gooners trolling away than there are City fans present. Yes, you would expect a degree of that with all clubs (maybe Aston Villa articles attract comments from sad Birmingham fans, I don't know), but the scale of it on City's is surely unprecedented.

You ask about Mourinho and Wenger. I have already said that I am speaking in general terms, and I have not suggested that the entire industry is now dedicated solely to bashing City at the same time as extolling the virtues of better supported clubs more likely to generate an advertising buck or two. If a City manager had become embroiled in an undignified spat, I would have no problem with the media giving us stick for it (as indeed they did when Mancini and Tevez had their Munich set to). That is the nature of journalism, and similarly it would therefore be palpably ridiculous if the papers tried to put a positive slant on any manager who had humiliated his own medical team and taken part in a truly embarrassing public bitch fest (not for the first time) with one of his rivals. I would imagine that every newspaper editor on the planet would wax large on journalistic integrity and their duty to investigate, and would not want to acknowledge any accusation of bias. The reality though is that in this online world, the number of credible balanced articles is increasingly outweighed by puff pieces and deliberate hatchet jobs designed to get punters clicking away. That is where the money is.

You mention Moyes then as evidence of United getting negative treatment. I would argue this only became reality once it became clear his position was untenable and the majority of rags wanted him gone. When he was appointed we were treated to one of the biggest media wankathons of the modern era. Moyes the committed Christian, Moyes the ambassador in his blazer, Moyes the deep thinker behind his desk, Moyes the heir apparent, Moyes the man of action in his tracksuit - it was a barrage that went on for weeks. Indeed one of my favourite examples of disparate reporting at the time was when the Fail (who else?!) stuck a zoom lens into Jesus Navas' open suitcase at Manchester Airport and wrote a sneering piece itemising the 'obscene' cost of every item contained therein. Two weeks later it repeated the trick with Moyes, who just happened to have a conveniently visible copy of Taggart's autobiography in his luggage. Cue another wankathon.

I don't believe in a global conspiracy of news outlets determining to undermine City any more than you do, but whatever the cause (the need to generate advertising revenue, the number of ex-rags working in the media, etc etc), I do believe that City are consistently portrayed in a particular way and that stories are often engineered with a pre-determined angle. Prestwich Blue has well documented evidence of such collusion, and didn't Ric experience something of this nature when a hack rang him up hoping for a character assassination on Raheem Sterling, and when he didn't get it pulled the request for an article?

Strangely enough on the page you are describing, is not on the back page but on Page 52 with the Headlines "Aguero Is Now Among The Best In The World" and is from a near full page quote from ... Zaba !!!
Flick over to the previous pages 50 & 51 and there you have a full page on City v Newcastle (Match Report) and opposite you have a picture of Sergio and underneath to complete the page is the "Five things we`ve learned".
The Rags have pages 53/54 and 55 and they use the same format as the City write-ups.

I got the paper we were discussing and it's the Manchester Weekly News (Salford Edition) dated Thursday 8 October.
The rags have pages 46 and 47 for the match report vs Arsenal, Five things we've learned, player ratings and an article on LVG.
City have page 45 only for the match report vs Newcastle and player ratings only, no Five things we've learned, although there is the Kun article on the back page.

Anyway seems to be a different version for Salford readers, pandering to the rags and local rugby I'm guessing.
So I'm not talking complete bollocks or measuring column inches, I simply made a comment on an observation. I'll gladly mail you the copy if you want it!!

So its NOT the MEN then as you assumed !!! It appears that the paper in question is a Local Paper which comes out once a week and they`ve done a write up for mainly that area.
We have the same here in Mid Cheshire and although its a Winsford & Northwich paper you can guarantee that very little is printed about Winsford.

This is a good post imo, well stated points.

It is the Manchester Evening News, seems to be a weekly edition.
The website shown is manchestereveningnews.co.uk

Britains Biggest Free Weekly newspaper, although it says £1 where sold.

A £1 !!!! Fucking hell I pay £0.65 per day.Certainly the daily editions that we get cover both teams equally and last Monday we got more inches as there was also a write up about the Ladies Team.
The format in the main edition is the same for both clubs and unless there is a major story from either Club they are on par with one another.

Gillette soccer Saturday.
Today...1544pm.
That jules geezer stepping in for Stelling.
Talking about the Walsall v burton match. Burton have only lost twice since February.
Then he pipes up this classic.."when you throw in the fact that arsenal have lost 3 times, Chelsea 5 and Manchester city 7 times since february, then you see how impressive a run it is..."
Now upon hearing that I thought ' I'm sure the rags have lost a few in that same period..'
And sure as eggs are eggs they've lost 7 times too.
But ssh hey, keep it under your hat.
These cunts just love throwing us under the bus.

Could be that it's not considered much of a surprise that United have lost 7 times in much the same way it wouldn't be that Swansea or Southampton have in that time.

Why is it according to Sky sports news that Kevin de bryune is in form for club and country after scoring but it is Manchester u****** darmian who scores for Italy??

Yeh I noticed that, but tbh...i think nothing of it anymore because i'm used to the blantant wankfest when it comes to anything scum...and the obvious hatred and negative slant that they have for liccle' ol rich city.

And today here is the bias in action

For the first time City have reported a profit. We all remember the headlines and condemnations over the past years for our huge losses so today is a good and great day for City so what do the media focus on the profit or "Pelegrini ultimatum" "win a trophy or your gone"

All because the chairmen said in his statement "The fact that we consider last season to be below par for Manchester City is a testament tohow far we have come in the last seven years. This is a level of ambition that we should notshirk or shy away from. It is right to have high expectations for this great Club and the talented group of players chosen to represent it.

I wonder if any club in the country would be treated this way

That is what the boiled bollock on Talkshite led with this morning, until he spoke to the Manchester Correspondent who put him in his place and said that the headline was totally out of context from what Khaldoon had said.
