City Vs Seville Champions League Post Match Thread

4-1 Spurs, 4-2 United, 3-1 Bayern. There's been plenty of others where the scores have been less but we've still been battered.

The problem is the lack of adaptability at the moment. We're trying to impose ourselves when we're missing the players to control the game. Coupled with an unbalanced side, at the moment individual quality has bailed us out.

Whilst I'm a big MP fan, I don't believe we set up to nullify the opposition, no matter who we try the same style, even if the opposition are better. Therein lies a problem.

Does that mean we defended well in those games?

It's not a problem for me. I'm not trying to be flippant but I genuinely don't care whether Pellegrini sets out to nullify the opposition. I'd rather he was figuring out ways to remain an attacking side and beat the opposition by scoring more goals than them.

Good win yesterday, happy to see us put in a better performance overall yesterday. Yaya, de bruyne and sterling in particular had good games once again.

Just need to be less open and concentrate more in defence.we would of lost against a stronger team. Puts us in good stead for the rest of the group and the derby coming up.

What I noticed quite a few times was that when a Sevilla player got the ball he had time to have a bad touch yet still recover and keep the ball. We were closed down straight away most of the time and bad touches punished.

Best part was when their player kneeled down to tie his lace, get back up and still receive the ball and have time to turn!

Looked quite disjointed I thought, Bony was poor, sterling wasn't involved enough, KDB struggled to get involved from the left. Our fullbacks were the worst though out of position and losing their men far too often. But you have to be pleased MP changed it and we went on to win, we have played far better and lost so for us to be that poor and come out with a win makes a nice change !

I think we need VK back at the weekend the organisation he brings to the others we just don't get from Mangala or otamendi.

The tactic of scoring at the expense of defending is something no top team or top coach would use . If you want to play a attacking style then you
should have a defensive gameplan to complement the attacking play . Pellegini is coach whose strenght is attacting play and nobody is saying we need to curb it or renounce it but we need a plan to protect ourselves against breakdown and counters at the same time something which is missing and gets exploited against teams in europe .

Thought Mangs played really well but we deffo need Kompany back for the rags... Sevilla are a very good team and it showed last night. We got out of jail thanks to KDB...Hope Pelle plays Kelechi in place of Bony on Sunday as Bony seems to have no fucking movement and just slows down the play.
At least we won and 3 points is all that matters at the end of the day.

Sadly, your comparison to Neville seems accurate.

He's clearly not fit but last night was the first time I started to think about all his other contributions in European games and they are not particularly bright.

A legend, for me, but it's not nice to watch him being exposed each week in terms of his positional sense.

We need new right and left backs next summer, although the candidates are few and far between?

Quality defenders are few & far between, full stop. It's a dying art.

I really hope Zaba is just going through a bad spell. But it is really starting to look bad.

I'd be interested in what you think he should have done last night then?

No left back fit enough to play 90 minutes, and Zab still needing to get his sharpness back.

Not sure what other options he actually had to be honest.

I was referring to him playing plodding Yaya in a midfield two, something which we were all convinced we would never see again in a european game. I fully understand why Zaba played.

Imo he has now potentially knackered Fernandinho for weekend by giving him far too much work to do. It wouldn't surprise me to see Fern's legs go at weekend. It also wouldn't surprise me to see him put Yaya on Felaini again with two in centre mid.

The whole team, including Zaba, was asked to do far too much work, because of Pellegrini's ludicrous selection & formation. We should have had Sterling or Navas fresh to come off the bench 2nd half. We have injuries & the same players are being asked to go back to the well again & again. We will be lucky to keep DeBruyne fit at this rate.

The stadium doesn't even have a roof... we've won in Munich and Rome in recent years, and we won away at Monchengladbach... you'll need to do a lot better than that and you'll need to beat us or you'll have a hell of a lot to do to qualify.

At Monchengladbach we won last year 2-3 (2-4 in global). And not at the last minute...

I only hope you return to underestimate us. Nervion not forgive.

Good game if a bit nervy. Slipped coming out of the south stand and smashed my head knocked me out. Flashing lights and sirens now in Salford royal with a bleed on the brain. Thanks to the Blue who picked me up and got the paramedic if you are on here!
