Is it Just MP or do we need changes higher up?

Neymar is an attacker in a free role. If you can't see the difference between that and a centre half in terms of training and drilling you're in no position to criticise any coach's decisions.
I don't believe for one minute that we'd have done our drills any differently to every other week. I don't think Otamendi is going to suddenly forget how Pellegrini wants him to defend just because he missed the same drills that he's done all season long. We never change the way we defend. When the ball is played back out away from goal we step up to the edge of the box and try to play an offside trap. It doesn't change. The ball being played backwards by the opposition is always the trigger for us to step up, and has been for the entirety of Pellegrini's reign. At no point will Pellegrini have done drills specific to Coutinho's movements, or Firmino's movements. His approach is always "we have our way of playing and we must trust our style blah blah blah". I would expect you to have noticed that to be honest!

still in bewilderment as to why he dropped probably our best player over the season so far(Fernandinho) and the best centre half recently (Otemendi),pellegrini puzzles the shit out of me sometimes,he dropped De Bruyne against Sevilla and amazingly it paid off,i know he is trying to use all the squad but surely that should be against lesser sides,we should not be getting twatted of that liverpool side at home.Apart from the sevilla game we have been really poor lately and can see him getting sacked if he doesn't sort it sooner rather than later

I don't think anyone can criticise Txiki's role after the signings he pulled off in the summer.

However, there are some huge issues to address in the summer. We need a top class CM, Striker, CB, RB and LB. That is easily another £150 million outlay at a minimum.

Hopefully Denayer can be a real asset and save us from buying a CB because we cannot rely on Kompany. We also need a top class striker who can challenge Kun and take his place when injured. Then there is the Yaya replacement.

Personally, I'd go down the English route and go all out for Barkley and Kane. Both young, talented and can be as good as they want to be.

That's without getting a new gaffa.

The only think the guys at the top are guilty of is staying loyal to a guy that's simply not good enough.

Why do we need all these new positions filled when I keep hearing on here we have a great squad?

Quite baffling really don't you think

No just the manager and his coaching staff. We don't have a philosophy of football as far as I can tell.
I was told by a fellow City fan yesterday that the philosophy Pellegrini brings to the table is one of exciting, attacking play. I think some people confuse not being able to/not bothering to organise the defensive side of the game with exciting, attacking football.

The people at the top have appointed two managers who have won 5 trophies between them.

That enough for me

The majority of them signings are down to the fact they will be replacing/providing competition for either injury prone players or players who are past their best. For the past 5 years we have been a team who wins when Yaya plays well and loses when he doesn't. The same still applies today and his influence on our games are fading. Teams need to constantly evolve and despite spending hundreds of millions on new talent, we are still very very similar to Mancini's side and approach.

I think a new CF and CM were always going to be on the cards for next season. The fact Aguero is barely fit for half a season and Bony has not shown he can lead the line for us suggest we are lacking in that department. Add to the fact Pellegrini admitted earlier in the season that he turned down the chance for a striker to let Kelechi have a go suggest we need one. That is of course assuming that Pellers would have wanted another striker if he could have foreseen Kun's problems. The fact he didn't play Kelechi against Villa suggests that assumption may be correct.

Then we have Vinny who is in exactly the same boat as Kun. The big problem we are having now is that we are obviously a much better side with Vinny in the team. However, Mangala has proved to be a top defender when given a run of games. It's when he stop/starts that his form seems to take a hit. I have no doubts that with an extended run in the side he can be a beast for us, whether that's alongside Vinny or Otamendi. The problem is that when Vinny is fit he walks back into the starting 11. Manga did not deserved to be dropped against United but it proved to be the right decision. However, since then he has been a stop gap for when Vinny is injured. IMO we should give him a proper run in the side alongside Otamendi and let Vinny wait for his chance. That is something which could help us in the long run.

The full back positions have been the same for a while now and we could do with a bit of extra pace on the right hand side. Also, the LB position has needed an upgrade for quite a while. That's not having a pop at Clichy or Kolarov, it's just that it is an area we can certainly improve.

I particularly enjoyed last season's trophies and finals. I suspect the way he motivates, organises, deploys and selects the team there'll be just as many reasons to celebrate this season.

Sarcasm aside, trophies aren't everything, but it would be nice to at least to see some progression and ability to learn from mistakes.
