There is a link between desertification of land in the middle east and conflict in the region but it would be pushing it somewhat to suggest that it's even one of the primary factors.

He might be onto something. I remember how close we were to war on particularly hot days in Spain, when the Germans had been down early to lay towels on the beds. Hot weather, it messes us up.
