Why do you feel the need to compare it to Sterling?

800k a week is near to £24m a season ... so thats in 2 years thats the money we paid just to get Sterling .... and Messi is World Class .... Sterling is average at the moment with the 'potential' to get better ... so i'd rather pay £50m for 2 years of Messi.

frankly .. i'll compare it to anything I want thank you very much. Hope Sterling vastly improves over the years at City, but the kid hasn't impressed me in the slightest.

But my point is, if we are spending £50m on those transfer fees, spending that on wages for a Stellar World Class player seems the the better option (at this moment in time).

Understand this blues - Messi signs for MCFC. Immediately all the Golden Boots, Ballons d'Or were spuriously won. Should have been Fake Ron's. The money - totally outrageous. How many hospitals, old folks' homes could be built for that. The PL has been well and truly ruined, and a Charlie Adam 'play-alike' is lurking in every team to bring the little fellah to heel!

It must be true, the BBC have posted (from the Sun) 'Tennis is mentioned on the Sun's back page, but their focus is mainly on claims that Manchester City are willing to pay Lionel Messi £800k a week to lure him to the Emirates.'

Why we would buy Messi for Arsenal I have no idea.

Only 20% of him

Replace Sterling with Delph I'd say. Sterling is a waste off space unfortunately. Just hasn't the strength or brain to link play. Delph at least is his own man.

Need a Kolorov replacement too. Left side is poor these days... Reminds me of the 90s in that respect. ;-) Nostalgic.

Put it this way we wouldn't be bored with the results it would be 4 5 6- whatever with that side

Your missing the transfer fee out for messi mate, circa 150 mill plus 24 mill a year for say five years, is an under estimate at about 250 mill.

is your year very short? 52 weeks in a year x 800k = £41.6m.

It's a ridiculous, untruthful number.

It's documented that Messi gets £13m a year from Barcelona. If we get rid of Nasri & Toure, that's more than covered it I reckon.

That £41m figure comes from Forbes but it's not uncommon for players like Messi to tie in commercial deals to their club-paid salary. So if Company X do a £5m a year deal with Barca, they might split that 50/50 with Messi, with him fronting the advertising campaign. That's how Rooney's much-publicised£300k per week deal works. His basic is still, as far as I'm aware, the same £180k he got in 2010. The rest is from commercial deals done by the rags that involve him. That's why they can't really drop him, however shit he is, as the sponsors would go mad.

I would assume a lot of personal money (signing-on fee/agents/dad/the true cost of his weekly wage) could be offset by a one-off, up-front payment, outside of Manchester City.

The push of one button is really all it would take.

Even if we promised to pay him £1m a week in wages, as long as the figure on City's books is commensurate with what he earns already, nobody would be any the wiser.

Perfectly legal, as long as the Messi family remember to pay their own private tax affairs.
