Exactly right Dave Ewing..we have a chance...and I would love to see one around Kolarovs neck..he divides opinion but I've seen the likes of edgehill as fullback.this guy is a winner just like his team mates.

I like Aleks a lot, he may have weaknesses in his game, but he shows way more passion than almost anyone else. He does need a rest though, Clichy surely will play 90 mins against either Everton or Norwich. BTW is there somewhere to see how many minutes a player has played so far this season, I'd be interested to see how Kolarov and Sagna compare to other full backs

3rd most key passes behind Silva and Kev. Already contributed 4 goals.

If you think he's bad at his job you should think about what his job is.

Averages more tackles than Kompany, more interceptions and gets dribbled past less than otamendi and zabaleta. It's actually quite hard to find evidence he's the terrible defender some say...

like with Mangala,it turns into a habit after a while, some people will have decided he's had a shit game on Wednesday already....

It's like that with quite a few of our players. Minds have been set.

I imagine it's quite hard to quantify how badly and often a player is out of position.

Haha that's one way to look at it. Something tells me after 5 years of his ambitious positioning he's doing it on instruction.

Unless people here reckon every week Pellegrini is telling him to stay back and keep it tight.

I'm sure he must be acting under Pellegrini's instructions but it does give Mangala (and the defence in general) problems often having to try and cover 2 positions.

Personally think he's a bit overrated going forward and a bit underrated defensively but there aren't many teams out there with 2 left backs with the quality of Kolarov and Clichy.

That seems a fairly fair assessment.

For my money he's the best attacking left back in the league bar none and defensively he's quite good but not at the standard of the best defensive full backs.

It shouldn't give Mangala problems at all - IF the def. midfielder(s) do their job, part of which is to provide cover if a quick counter attack is launched when one of the full backs is down the other end of the pitch.

They generally stay in the middle and protect the centre rather than dropping into a full back slot. I have to assume that is their instruction. At present Mangala has to spend nearly as much time in LB position as he does CB. Rarely see Fernandinho or Fernando in that position.

Maybe it is an instruction, I just find it odd that they leave the space behind the full backs more or less unprotected. Certainly when Barry was in the team he was usually good at covering that space, then again he played full back earlier in his career so perhaps that helped.

According to SSN has the second worst shot conversion rate, 6.02% since 2013. The moral of this story, stop shooting Aleks, concentrate on defending.
