Loaning players to Celtic

You're missing the whole point of what I'm saying.Yes Celtic knew they were probably going to lose both players hence why the fans are upset as they would have preferred developing players who may or may not show a loyalty to the club.
Having saw the pair on a number of occasions they absolutely strolled through games and I would guess anyone playing sport at a decent level will tell you, you learn more playing against better players than you do against inferior ones.
My opinion is Denayer
returned having learned little or nothing from his spell at Celtic park and so City havnt gained anything out of it,Denayer didn't gain anything,Celtic won the league which they would have won anyway but had their defence dismantled, and the rest of the Scottish clubs were screwed by a unfair loan system.
Can't see to many positives here.
As to your next post clearly pellers has had a good look at him and isn't that impressed hence why he's gone to Celtic and not a higher standard.
As regards the fee I could be wrong on this but my understanding of the deal was £5M up front and around £6M in ad-ons.

Yes that was my understanding of the fee also, at the time it was mentioned as 12M if all add ons were met

Nail on the head as an Aberdeen fan it's absolutely sickening.
His weekly wage (£25,000) is higher than the entire Aberdeen squad weekly wage summed (£22,500)

Aye you probably going to say boo hoo but it ain't very fair is it?
ANd folk wonder why most people in Scotland non Old Firm affiliated think Scottish football is better without Celtic and Rangers
Feel a bit of your pain mate when I'm in Aberdeen I go and watch the Dons when I get the chance, and it is absolute bollocks that on top of their financial superiority they can bring in loan deals like this, think the whole system needs to be looked at.

I'd be very surprised if there isn't a clause for both clubs to end this deal in the summer, Pep will have been in on it, being at Celtic, means we can keep a closer eye on how he's doing.

So much negativity still around, its amazing. As a City supporter, I couldn't care less about whether its good for scottish football or not, so long as it suits our club and player.
Keep a closer eye on him than if he was at a championship club not sure how that works.

The chance at european football pretty much every season is a big plus for such an easy local loan option, and our youngsters are likely to get in the match day squad at least, but im not sure this plus point alone can outweigh the pointlessness of loaning into such a lopsided league.

Would prefer a top championship side or a decent side abroad
Good post but even the European point is debatable as they can't get in champs league and struggle in Europa

No, keep a closer eye on him than if he was in Spain, or Turkey etc etc.

No championship side would offer the chance to play every week, in a similar style to what City want, in a high pressure club, whilst being able to offer a top of the league team, and in high likelihood next season, CL football.

The only Scottish team worth playing against is Celtic - the rest of the league is a frankly very low standard. Roberts would be stretched more playing in league one.

But he wouldn't get as much of the ball.

At Celtic he'll constantly be on the ball and will have to find solutions to overcoming his small size vs very physical opponents

I think it's a perfect loan for him.

I don't see the problem. The standard is not high in Scotland as, Celtic apart, the teams struggle to compete financially with League One let alone Championship clubs. By and large most teams do try and play football, not always that successfully.

Having said that the Scottish Premiership and Championship do not generally have the kind of midfield ankle assassin that you will find in the English Championship and League One. There is the chance, however brief of European action.

Besides it's hardly new for City. I can recall Vladimir Weiss being loaned to Rangers in 2011-2, and looking quite good. I also remember Ryan McGiven on loan with Hibs are being crap.

'My opinion is Denayer returned having learned little or nothing from his spell at Celtic park', we'll have to agree to disagree on that point.

If Celtic would have won the league anyway (which is a given) why is it unfair on the rest of the league? Just for clarity I live in Scotland BTW.

I'd rather have nothing to do with Celtic and Rangers and their backward fans.

Celtic come and sing IRA songs while Rangers trashed the city centre. We shouldn't be helping them out with players.

the unfairness comes from Celtic being able to take on loan players whose value is greater than the entire transfer budgets of all 42 Scottish clubs put together.
If that's not unfair then WOW

Some fair points like the high pressure club and maybe the style, but you could replace high likelihood of CL football with little chance off.
Celtic have failed to qualify for the last 3 seasons and that's with fairly favourable draws avoiding games against the big league qualifiers.
The point about playing every week is not important as almost no player does at any decent level and even if he came back to us as the finished article he most certainly won't play every week.
Everyone's got different opinions but I would rather see him play for a decent side that plays decent opposition when he plays and that probably leaves championship or abroad.

The championship isn't the place because to get a first team slot at one of the top clubs he'd need to be ready, clearly he isn't, or he'd be in or around our squad, and therefore wouldn't get enough game time, and playing for someone near the bottom of the championship would be no development, as they don't play decent football, even if he got decent game time, and losing every week is definitely not good for development.

Most other european leagues are similar to Scotland, apart from a couple of decent sides in each league, see Holland, Belgium, Portugal, even France which are the most likely options. We saw what happens in Spain last year with Zuculini (twice), and there's no chance of getting a decent side in Italy or Germany imho, and that pretty well leaves Scandinavia, or Greece, which are probably as bad as Scotland.

As I said I'm sure there'll be a release clause in the summer if it doesn't work out.

Can we recall them if the brother shagger gets the gaffers job?

Get to see him play live for the third time tonight (Sunderland & Tottenham away before) wish it was under different circumstances.

I wish the lad well on his swift return to City

Hardly surprising as I doubt he'd trained with them yet, and he has also been out injured. He's there for 18 months, so playing 1 day after his arrival was hardly important.

Agreed and Aberdeen won so happy days, will mean he has tougher competition when he is available

Patrick made his Celtic debut today for the 21's.

Set up 3 and scored one in a 4-0 win.

i'm sure he would have done well at City and had a chance to impress in the Cup game v Chelsea

If Pellegrini thought so highly of him you would have thought we'd have seen him on the bench more rather than having 3 defenders on the bench every week.
I swear the people on this forum have absolutely no concept of man management. At all. You can't keep established pros who are on major wages and have been at your club for years off the bench when they're fit. It's a nightmare. Maybe every once in awhile, but not with some sort of regularity. An 18 year old kid has absolutely no expectations that he'll play if he's at City -- none. He'd love to, of course, but he knows a senior player is always ahead of him in the pecking order.

Players get bonus money for making the bench. If you start regularly costing guys thousands of pounds, things can turn very sour. Think very hard about the reality of management before you make posts like this. It's not as easy or as straightforward as some of you make it out. There are a lot of parts and pieces and egos that have to be juggled.
