If only Pellegrini had the benefit of hindsight.

Would he have been vindicated had he started a full stregnth side beat Chelsea but lost Aguero & Kompany to injury? Thus losing Wednesday and Sunday?

You understand the injury crisis right? He may still lose, he may lose both and some of it will be his fault. Some fault will be placed on underperformance players, some on a unrivalled injury crisis and some on a woefully unbalanced squad.

If we had a fully fit squad, he binned off the FA Cup, then lost two more games it would be his fault. Facts are he won't. So it's not all on him. If he plays Caballero though, that's suicide.

As for the FA Cup, we must have some of the most fickle fans about. No doubt the sales fans saying we disrespected the cup will be the same ones not attending finals or semi finals due to cost or time. Like it or not, the FA Cup is a joke now. Most teams make huge changes for it, we did no different, just our squad players are all injured.

Liverpool made 11 changes against West Ham. Only their fans are too interested in their own team to listen to the idiotic media.

I love the FA Cup but I agree with pretty much everything you've said there. Pellegrini has always played strong sides in this competition so anybody saying he's disrespected it needs to give their heads a wobble. As you said, loads of teams make big changes for FA Cup games but with the Kiev game and League Cup final looming, coupled with our injuries, something was always going to give with this match. And let's be fair here - Pellegrini warned weeks ago that he was going to do this which gave those fans thinking of attending the game a heads up in advance. A lot of managers wouldn't do that for an FA Cup match and just make sweeping changes without giving much warning to the fans that have forked out good money on match tickets.

He will indeed. Some seem to think we will roll Kiev over just by picking our strongest 11. I hope we do but every time mp faces a team with a plan who are up for it we tend to lose. Can't see this being an easy game at all.

He has just run Fernando's legs off, so unless Delph has recovered, it is suggesting Yaya+1 in centre mid.

Yaya's worst ever game in a City shirt, was in Kiev.

It's exactly what I have been saying about this bloke being proven true.

Some said he was 'protecting' the kids by not using them previously. I said that had already been proven not to be the case, by his use of Pozo last season, suddenly thrown into the team, playing out of position against top level, big, strong, players. The manager doesn't care, these kids are just pawns, to be used as he sees fit. Yesterday he was happy to chuck a whole bunch in, away from home vs the Champions. He hung them out to dry when it suited him, exactly as I said he would.

Some have argued previously, that the reason most of these have barely had 5 mins between them, is because it was 'too big a risk' to use any. I have argued that there is no risk at all. Yesterday a side containing mostly kids, held Chelsea until half time, despite being constanly let down by utterly shit 'experienced' players. The idea that one or two of these coming off the bench, over the past year or so, would have mortally wounded the first team, has been completely shattered & exposed for the utter nonsense many of us have always known it to be.

Then we compare these lads at their stage of development & think of all the kids who 'could' have played over the recent years, who were physically more suited to the task & have been discarded without even a trial run. Some written off as 'no hopers' because they allowed their standards & effort to slip during periods in the wilderness.

Then we consider the players picked, shoehorned into a 442 in order to suit his pathetic lack of tactical organisational skills, & as unbalanced in makeup, as many of his senior teams. It cried out for Kean Bryan to protect the awful, disgraceful Demichelis & Kolarov, but he picked a group of midfield kids who have barely made a decent tackle between them in their careers, to play against Hazard, Fabregas, Willian & Pedro & a totally inexperienced cb to play vs Diego Costa, next to two fucking clowns, in front of a shite goalkeeper.

The kids, I think, did themselves proud & nothing but positive can come of this from their perspective. This is not due to planning. It is due to their talent, & sheer luck that nothing happened to mentally scar them, as in the case of Boyata, when Mancini threw him into teams with similar disregard to his development & basically destroyed him.

Tosin was clearly shitting his pants & could barely kick the ball straight, but arguably defended better than the other 3. Well done lad. Barker was clearly nervous as fuck but still managed to skin a top fullback alive when given a decent pass. Those two will benefit from just getting on the pitch I think. Celina however, stuck out in no mans' land, didn't benefit. The two Spanish kids were getting used to it & particularly A Garcia looked like he's got a decent hour in him & was excellent at recovering the ball, very very promising.

Tbf to Pellegrini, he is probably the only person in the world who would have picked Faupala, who thouroughly doesn't deserve to be there on merit & totally unbalanced the team, but he put in a game effort. I suspect that will turn out to be his 'Macheda' moment, but well played to the lad & I hope I'm wrong. It is early days for him, tbf.

Fantastic that the kids have finally got started. I'm truly delighted for them, & we have a load more who could have done just as well or better.

Meanwhile, I'm counting the days for this con artist of a manager to leave & wish he had gone two seasons ago. He is completely unfit for the job & the luckiest man alive.

Brilliant post.

I was disappointed Pellegrini didn't come over and applaud us yesterday, would have been a nice touch (unless I missed it!!) Aleks for all his knockers, is passionate about City and stood there for several minutes just clapping us, for this he gets my utmost respect.

The only time I've ever seen Pellegrini acknowledge the fans is when the team were walking out at Villa Park in the 4th round. He waved and that's the only thing I've ever seen him do.

Vindication for yesterday does not come from a win in Kiev. Since when does reaching the QF of a tournament = success? Vindication comes in the form of winning the trophy which this team, managed by this inept idiot has zero chance of.

Pellet ruin made the right choices yesterday. Anyone who can't see that, well let's just say, it's clear why you aren't employed in the field.

There is, unfortunately, a lot of truth in this post.

Superb post that mate, he's shown himself up for what he is with the team he picked yesterday, a man having his last throw of the dice at winning the CL, he doesn't give a fuck about the EDS lads and is just paying them lip service, he chose to play 6 of them together yesterday but hasn't the fucking bollocks to blood them when winning at home 4 or 5 nil against footballing leviathans like Bournemouth at home or any of the other teams given a good fucking hiding by us earlier this season or for the past two seasons for that matter.

Its a good job Pep is rolling up for next season as the younger lads would be leaving in there droves if we had another season of this birk in charge.

He somehow thinks he gained the moral high ground yesterday when in fact he made himself look a fucking fool, that game yesterday could have been even more of a pasting than it was, but heh he's got a ready made excuse right?

A good man manager by the way would make sure that buffoon in net never pulls on a blue shirt again, but he will be in goal on Sunday mark my words.

If by 'the right choices' you mean resting some senior players, that is a fair argument which has merit on both sides.

If you mean picking a random bunch of kids & shoehorning them into a 442 then leaving it exactly the same 2nd half whilst the oppo manager picks holes in it at half time, then imo, absolutely not.

Not sure what irritated me the most yesterday.

Danny Murphy’s constant reference to City’s naive, high line defending, or City continually proving him right.

An absolute top post.

Yesterday proved to me at least that with judicious and skillful use of some of our excellent youngsters this season, we could have lessened quite a bit of the impact of the injury crisis (and in some cases avoided the crises by giving players proper recovery time rather than rush them back).

Pell might be a charming man, but he is not a particularly good football manager.

Hopefully we will see a completely different approach under Pep.

Rubbish. For one thing, you can only win by getting through the next round. And while I doubt we're going to win it, every victory and progression through as many rounds as possible is good financially, for our coefficient and for our image.

You're picking the entirely wrong man for your anger.

He had no choice but to pick that side yesterday.

I think that's rubbish mate. He could have played Aguero, Silva, Sterling, Fernandino, Kompany and Hart. Or just some of them. Sterling can hardly be worn out, can he - he's not been playing 90 minutes week in week out and he's only 21. And some of them would still have been available on Wednesday.

He decided not to risk any of them and basically tossed the FA Cup away, a piece of silverware that we conceivably might have won. And for what?

Personally, I think we'll lose in Kiev on Wednesday and I think we'll lose to Liverpool on Sunday as well.

Incidentally, if we were to do that and the we lost away to Liverpool on the following Wednesday (which surely we might), then that would be a run of 6 consecutive defeats. I wonder when that last happened to City?

What's worst playing a full strength side go through to the next round and possibly getting injuries to a key player which will impact on the rest of the season.

I generally like your posts on here, well thought out and very informative, particularly on the aspects of FFP etc. However this is one of the most depressing things I have read. The day I care more about this than my club winning a trophy is the day I start watching another sport.

So having a good coefficient is the key to winning the trophy then? Fuck me , here is me thinking that putting the ball in the net was the way to win it, so its all down to what pot we are in then whether we win it or not?

Do you think it did our image any good last year when he played Milner in a midfield two against the best team on the planet, or getting spanked by CSKA at home last year?

Sad isn't it mate.

Not you by the way PB!

Did losing yesterday not impact the rest of our season?

Now if he'd wanted to rest Aguero for Wednesday, or maybe Silva. Or perhaps Silva and Aguero, then OK I could understand and tolerate that. But to put out a side like we fielded yesterday, I think it was a bloody disgrace to be honest. Maybe it's because Pellegrini is not English or even European that he doesn't understand the significance of the FA Cup, but it is the 2nd highest honour in the the UK and part of the game's rich history.
