I think that's rubbish mate. He could have played Aguero, Silva, Sterling, Fernandino, Kompany and Hart. Or just some of them. Sterling can hardly be worn out, can he - he's not been playing 90 minutes week in week out and he's only 21. And some of them would still have been available on Wednesday.

He decided not to risk any of them and basically tossed the FA Cup away, a piece of silverware that we conceivably might have won. And for what?

Personally, I think we'll lose in Kiev on Wednesday and I think we'll lose to Liverpool on Sunday as well.

Incidentally, if we were to do that and the we lost away to Liverpool on the following Wednesday (which surely we might), then that would be a run of 6 consecutive defeats. I wonder when that last happened to City?
Possibly relegation days oh the bitter memories. Put I must support the manager on this one. The main blame should be focusedon the FA and the BBC not Peller's. However, I fear you could be right about the next three games although I think we will get at least one draw from Kiev and Liverpool away but this will probably be inspite of not because of the manager who it increasingly looks like will be going out with a whimper rather than a blaze of glory.

What are you saying?

I'm saying that no one in their right mind thinks that Chimps League QF is worth more than silverware.

I'm also saying that the decision made by Pellegrini was a gamble, which weighed up many probabilities... not just Chimps League QF or Fa Cup title winners.

So when you oversimplify the argument to ' Chimps League QF justifies FA Cup suicide,' you're being disingenuous, inaccurate and frankly naive (especially naive to consider that playing a full strength side at Stamford Bridge would've resulted in a high chance of victory, let alone a high chance of winning the FA Cup.

Still don't get it.... you're assessment of the reasoning behind Pellers' decision is lazy and wrong.

Also a full strength side at Stamford Bridge would not have been best for the club. (In spite of FA cup being superior to Chimps League)

Are we not underestimating our squad?

The first team that Pellegrini puts out would get beat at most away grounds at the moment because he insists on the inclusion of Toure, but I don't think there is much wrong with the first team squad, particularly if it was bolstered by Alex Garcia.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the clarification.

That it? No response? Nothing to reinforce the drivel you typed 10 posts ago? Or no admitting that you've been hasty and inaccurate of your criticism of our gaffer?

Nothing? Fine. Not the worst-case scenario :)

I think that after losing to Leicester and Tottenham at home he was afraid to play a decent side at the Bridge and lose that too. It's easier to hide behind the schedule, play the kids then say "well it was only to be expected."

Can't be arsed reading every page but has anyone put out the team they would have used?
MP getting a shit full today for making a bold decision given the situation we find ourselves.
I wonder how many dissenters would be if next year Pep the messiah does the same thing? He is a very bold manager and most on here won't know whether to stick or twist with there support.

Pellers said he would be playing the kids before the Leicester and Spurs games. Fair warning was given on what our response would be to the scheduling of this game.

No and it goes beyond Toure , we are not nearly as good as we think but its not helped by being managed as poorly as we have for two seasons now.

I don't think we would have lost our last three games for example if Guus has been in charge and he is near the end of his managerial career.

There is a fair bit of change needed in the first team squad and this notion we have two first rate players for each position has to go.

What we need are more players who can play top rate football in more than one position.

It will take a little while but under Pep if nothing else we will be a faster , fitter and more flexible outfit that moves the ball forward quicker and attacks in numbers and defends in numbers something we don't do under MP.

Nobody has a fucking clue anymore mate as to what's going on, right now Leicester, yes Leicester are better than us-who play with the same 14 players week in week out, we had less injuries last season but still did fuck all in the league.Tottenham look a more balanced hungry outfit than us , Arsenal do to if they don't get the mental yips again.

United are a fucking disgrace but find themselves only six points behind us.

The only thing it can be is the manager and the system he implements.

When people start blaming Silva then you really know its Donald Ducked.

Did he think we would not get smashed? When did he say this?
Manuel said nothing, but what I was asking is in his mind did he not think that his 442 tactical set up away at a full strength Chelsea would end up with us getting smashed?

Given the tools at his disposal yesterday, do you think this would have been the result irrespective of his formation and where he picked the players to play?

Are you ok?

That was crucial for me. Fair enough play kids if you have other priorities but give em a chance and pack the midfield.

Totally agree, Pellegrini is an absolute shambles and not because of yesterday, because we have stagnated for so long with no midfield or shape defensively, and now find ourselves in the position where we are talking six or seven first team players needed in the summer.

The sooner the geratric clown does one the better, I'd pack his effing bags now and pay for his flight. Can't wait to see what a proper manager does next season, transition or not at least we'll be a team

I didn't have a problem with the personnel - we would have lost with our first XI. What could have been done better was the formation, skipper (Kolarov FFS! ), and perhaps some interjection of experience at certain points. And if he plays Willy in nets next Sunday we will get royally Donald Ducked.

I was impressed by the kids and appauled at how easily Chelsea sprang our 'offside trap' time and time again. Its sad that we seem to rely solely on one individual to organize things back there.

I agree, and although with a packed fixture list, might it still not have been better to try to just hang on to a 0-0 draw and take our chances with the replay at home, when we wouldn't have a CL game and a cup final to immediately follow perhaps?

The way he set us up - and with the complete lack of experienced/competent outfield players in the side (Fernando is only experienced) - we were always going to get thrashed.
