Legends (ahem) lounge

The abuse for Edghill at the Coventry home match, when he was subbed at half time, was undoubtedly the most vitriolic and embarrassing I ever witnessed at Maine Road (and there were a few contenders)

The 6-2 win at Sheff Wednesday he was immense. I think that game was the catalyst for promotion.

It was 1-1, 1-2 or 2-2 and he was down injured close to the goal line at our end, they were attacking (he was still getting dogs abuse), he got partly up and flung himself at the ball, stopped the attack and was then stretchered off. Not a big thing in the scale of that season but at the time it was the stuff of legends.

Good post. I was at that game and will always remember that incident, good to see it acknowledged.

Some interesting responses, but for me he was one of the worst players in a team that was one of the worst we've ever had. If that constitutes legendary status then 'legend' is an easily achieved status. He is a local lad and a top blue, and as I stated in my original post I have nothing against him. Still, if a lot of you think he's a legend then it's right he's employed in the lounge.

I witnessed that abuse and at the time I was ashamed to be a Blue, still can't forget it. Unfortunately I also seen the abuse to Ian Boywer and Paul Power, sad times.

Sorry it's a no from me

Wasn't the best player got loads of abuse but a blue through and through but never a legend

Over used the word legend past players
Bell, Lee, summerbee, Bert, Swift, Meredith etc

Current Kun, Kompany, Yaya, Zaba, Silva will be

Remember the abuse Power got and couldn't believe the shit he got has he gave his all

Chuffed for him winning the league with Everton even though I hated them with a passion.

You get the feeling that none of the current crop will be putting on their corporate suits in 10 years time to earn a couple of hundred quid on match day.

Power never ever deserved that abuse, he was our skipper he carried the team at times.
He bled blue blood for the team, strange times.

Brightwell works there sometimes too. He was hardly Pele. However I liked him along with White.

Legends mean different things to different people.

Goater is a legend for me and Dickov yet others would say not.

Kolorov will be to some for what he has won but to me he will always be a wanker.

Yep, Brightwell was there too. They actually walked around together.

My user name might suggest id consider Brightwell a legend, but I don't. He scored one of my favourite ever goals though.

As you say, I guess 'legend' means different things to different people.

Bothers me more that Niall Quinn has his name in there .... it should be stripped for the way he slates us and snipes at every given opportunity .....

To be honest, if we eliminated every player who was more of a cult figure than a genuine City legend, we’d be left with Bell, Summerbee, Booth, and Corrigan, serving 200 tables.

Oh, and Jim Conway.

Some of our more mature supporters idea of a legend is quite different from our current crop of superstars , Mark Lillis was a legend to me , local lad and a blue , think he only played one season and we had to sell him because we were financially f*cked , can't see yaya , merlin or kun helping out in legends bar in the future ,so lets have a few local lads earning a few bob and stop belittling them.

I don't think glass collectors earn that much, but if he keeps his head down and works hard he might get promoted to pint puller, more tips then :)

Not attempting to belittle anybody.

I don't think a willingness to help out at legends should warrant status as one though.

Was in hospitality at the sty for Rooneys shinner a few years back. The "legend" was Clayton Blackmore who rocked up, said a few words and fucked off as he had a family emergency.

Give me Edghill any day.
