Time catching up with Zabaleta?

I definitely think we need a right back, Zab as much as I love him clearly hasn't got the boundless energy he once had and Sagna is solid but offers very little attacking threat these days.

Then I think it's one, maybe two natural wide players depending on where De Bruyne prefers playing and also if Pep feels like he can get any consistency with Brandon Barker who I think has everything technically but others who see him far more regularly seem to believe he's a bit soft and goes missing too often. Sterling will be brilliant under Pep, given freedom to run at players again in the final third but Navas has to go, maybe it's just confidence with him too but I just don't see any potential in him.

There's no place for a fast winger who can't cross or score. All our front three or four players need to be scoring double figures. We need a front three like Barca. I hope Sterling finds his shooting boots.

Hope we don't break the back for Stones, no doubting his potential but I'm yet to be convinced

I would be very happy if we signed him. The problem I see that there's a big question mark over whether both Stones and Laporte will be ready to start the season. Stones will be late back from the Euros (and with England starting to look half decent that might be a week or so later than previously expected) and will have very little time to work with Guardiola before the season starts. I wouldnt throw him into the first team until he's had a good few weeks working with Guardiola and the rest of the defence. Laporte can't be rushed back after a very serious injury. And then there's the ongoing uncertainty over Kompany's fitness.

Guardiola will obviously want to make signings for the medium term. But he'll still want to make a good start to his City career. And if we end up in 4th place this season he certainly will not want to start by losing a CL qualifier. If Kompany is fit I expect we will start the season with Kompany and Otamendi. If Kompany picks up another injury at the Euros I'm not sure what the starting CB partnership would be. Possibly hang on to Mangala until the end of August and then loan him out. But it does seem to be a major challenge to integrate both Stones and Laporte into the first team.

My feelings are that he'll be the first defender out the door,Zaba may not be far behind as I think it makes more sense to keep Sagna.
Why? What does Sagna bring apart from being a pretty rigid right back? I can't see him being a Guardiola type player at all.

Sterling will be the player who benefits the most from Peps' management I'm absolutely convinced he'll be a star going forward given the freedom in the final third. He knows exactly what he has to work on, so does his mum if his last interview is anything to go by.

I hope you're right. I'm not sure that you can learn to be a goal scorer but I'm looking forward to seeing how he responds to new challenges.

Well no argument in regards to our centre half purchasing policy......there are several examples of players in this league that could have done as good,if not better,a job than our 70m pairing.
I too hope Denayer is given his deserved opportunity, either CB or RB,as i've championed him from the moment he signed,i'm just not convinced he will.......

i too would like denayer back hopefully, he`ll have the advantage of playing in a defense for a manager with some semblance of a defensive system. our defense looks shambolic even in comparision to those rag clowns, who set up to protect their defense but at the cost of their attack

It can sometimes just click for a striker. Gary Lineker was considered to be a very wasteful striker when he was the same age as Sterling. Ditto Thierry Henry.

I think our front three will be Kun with Nasri and de Bruyne just behind. Then possibly Fernandinho Gundogan and Pogba behind them.

I'd rather see a real goal scorer instead of Nasri. DeB seems to have goals in him but we can't keep relying on Aguero. We need another 20 goals a season man. If not two. For me, Nasri just hasn't got enough goals in his locker, or the character if it comes to that.

With the likes of Pogba & Gundogan rumoured to be coming where would that leave both Ferns?
433
Gundogan Pogba and Fernandinho as the midfield 3.

Fernando isn't a particularly good player. He's okay, but nowt special. Ideal squad player though.

I honestly think Guardiola will really like Nasri and Nasri could really buy into his philosophy and become a different player.

The thing about Delph is that he's not exactly been a success playing left midfield so fullback? Not sure.
He doesn't have to be great at LM to be good at LB. I reckon most disagree, but his skillset suggest he will. Just like Dihno would be good at RB.

None of our full backs are Guardiola types.....hence why we would have to purchase two first choices.......but Sagna retains great fitness,he's very reliable, has bags of experience and a greater versatility.

Pep is radicle, the fact is we haven't been linked with any fullbacks perhaps points to the formation we will play next season- he plays a three at Bayern a lot these days-why would we think he will set up any different when he lands at City.
Perhaps because his base system still is with 4 defenders.

I see Nasri as a sub, and at CM.

He hasn't got greater versatility. Not sure how you've reached that conclusion. Until his injury I reckon Zabaleta was one of the fittest players in the squad. He's struggled since coming back but there's nothing to say he can't get close to where he was. In fact everything you've said in Sagnas favour you could just as easily be talking about Zabaleta.

We do need two new full backs though, no argument on that score.
