The battle for 4th place

Did you voice this in the pre match thread? Not trying to be funny, but very few complained about the team when it was announced. Just seams like people are now using hindsight to have a pop.

A lot of us said we had to go with strongest side and give us space to breathe v Arsenal. It was not a work of genius to know how important today's game was, United dropping two points gave us some leeway (we were one penalty they should have had at the end there from all but being in real trouble already).

Win today (as our first team would have done I suspect as it was - again predictably and said so pre match - the kind of open game we attack well in but defend poorly so had to outscore - exactly what happened). Then we would have needed a draw next week. Now Arsenal can go through with that. A huge difference.

All this WAS in here over the past few days. None of what happened today was not predicted.

The fact that people on a forum seem to understand what we have to do and how to do it rather than a manager paid millions is scary.

You're somewhat unsubtly referring to yourself, and your powers of prescience, in that post. Why so insecure?

Yeah if we miss out on top 4 many would look back at this game as being the biggest cock up selection wise of the season.

Yep... But in my eyes, if we hadn't of been in this shite competition in the first place,we would have walked the league... ;)
.

We've been knocked outs early out of the CL before and never walked the league.
It makes me laugh people getting in a flap about not making the top 4 , then in the next sentence saying they hate the CL , so why get worked up??
Any City fan who hates the CL are fucked cos we are going to be in in most seasons now, so you will have to get over being all mard arsey , and get used to it.
And any City fan that calls the Champs league the chumps are they still in primary school sucking their thumbs , it's laughable .
I still think we will finish in the top 4 and the Champions league semi could go either way.
So get behind the blues and start manning or womaning up!!

I know this place is angry at the moment, but do you really think the club would allow this

They quite possibly have not even worked out that this is what he is prioritising. Or maybe they agree with him and are not fussed about top 4 believing we will win CL anyway. Or they have only just fathomed it out and know it is too late anyway to do anything but pray.

I do not think it is deliberate sabotage - just a mission MP is on to beat Real Madrid for his own reasons and reach a final as it will guarantee him any job he wants next season.

The paper today says he turned down a job with City's overseas empire as he wants to manage in the Premiere League again.

Might be nonsense but make the CL final and anyone would consider him.

He knows that and understandably it takes priority over what happens at a PL rival club next season.

One thing in our favour is Arsenal have Villa at home on the last day to secure CL so the players will know in the back of their minds it's not a must win game against us.

City: Arse (L), Swansea (W) = 67 points
United: Norwich (W), West Ham (D), B'mouth (W) = 67 points
West Ham: Swansea (W), United (D), Stoke (W) = 66

Easy :-)...

But really, the West Ham vs United game could be decisive - I'm resigned to us continuing our trend of dropping points against Arsenal & beating Swansea. Seems odd but West Ham are in with a real shot, 2 winnable games against Swansea & Stoke, then they could quite easily dispatch United at home - would leave us requiring a result against Arsenal & a win against Swansea.

Our goal difference could well be key.

I was not referring to myself. I deliberately avoided doing that. Several people said similar things. That's the point. It was not guesswork. Anyone who could read the league and upcoming fixrures and had seen our B team play and knew how Southampton have been playing recently would have spotted all this. It was not secret.

The way we were playing, Sergio would have made a shite of difference. When half the team don't want to play, you just have to accept no sub would have turned that around
I agree completely but I was making the point he clearly puts the CL first as if we didn't have CL on Wednesday he would have tried to get back in the game today but today he just thought fuck it

I think we have to beat Arsenal now otherwise one of WHU or Utd will be ahead of us by the time we go to Swansea and it will be out of our hands

Exactly they can afford a draw and play like that. Had we won today we could have done. It changes the match. Not to our advantage though as far as I can see.

Win our last 2 games, we finish 3rd. Simple as that. Judging off of league form, however, I doubt our ability to even do that.

And David James was laughed at about us not finishing in the top 4, we called him out I wonder if he put a few quid on?

Yeah, but did we beat Liverpool, Leicester, Tottenham and the SCUM at home with our strongest 11? (If my memory is correct, we collected a sum total of 0 points from these games at home!)

You can surely understand why so many are voicing their doubts about beating Arsenal all of a sudden, taking into account our performances this season.

Arsenal are not great too, watched their game yesterday and they weren't brilliant. I think if we win or lose on weds , we will be fired up for different reasons .
I think we will beat them at home , will be close tho, won't be 6-3 lol

Are you suggesting you didn't post along those lines?

No. I was one of those who did. Amongst others. So have been trying not to claim personal credit by not mentioning anything I said - given that I was not alone.

You are the one bringing up the claiming of credit. But not sure why that is worth arguing over.

All I have noted is that several people on here DID see the way today might pan out up front which you seemed to be asking earlier if anybody had. I presume because it would be easy with hindsight. Though in this case it was foreseeable.
