Players who might improve us

Jamaal Lascelles is now showing the talent and potential that made many a club, including us,show genuine interest in him when he was at Forest.

He's very athletic, composed on the ball, reads the game well and is strong in the challenge. At a fraction of the money Everton would want for Stones.....Should Newcastle be relegated,he would make a very good signing IMO.

For random CB's who've never been linked with us, I'd go for Victor Lindelof, he's been absolutely outstanding since coming into the Benfica team showing a composure and defensive solidity that is ridiculously impressive for someone in their first season. Was excellent for Sweden U21's as well last summer when they won the Euro's. Far more impressive than John Stones and has been doing it at a higher level in the Champions League. €30m release clause apparently, so a bargain by our defensive standards, just need Super John to put in a good word

Southampton did fantastically getting in Van Dijk. We keep looking for CB's who are good footballers with prices quoted at £40-50m, yet Southampton get this guy for ~£13m. Personally think he would've (and still would) been a good signing. Big, strong, fast enough, a good passer of the ball with a great long shot & threat from set pieces. Could do far worse.

Sack our scouts, surely it's not that difficult to spot a decent defender. We're being linked with stones for fifty million, which is worrying. Also Laporte, I've seen little of him but he's priced at fifty million again, not sure paying that for another foreign export is a good idea.

Does feel a little bit like we go for the "big names" rather than looking at players who might slot into our team.

I'm still living in hope that we haven't been stupid & that Otamendi/Mangala will come good once in a system that protects the defence more (under Pep). But if it turns out they're still clumsy & rash for the next few years it does make you question what the scouts have been doing when you see other "smaller" teams picking up classy defenders (e.g. Alderweireld/van Dijk) from places you'd expect us to have been watching.

Wasn't Denayer just as good when they were both at Celtic?

Based on yesterdays performance Shane Long would be a big step up on Bony
Have always thought Long is one of the most underrated players. He works his bollocks off and is a very astute finisher, could've easily had a career as a backup striker at a top club IMO.

Griezmann would be the dreaming signing... Will get hate for it but i think he's better than Aguero overall, he scores as many goals, is a lot more creative and works about 5 times as hard.
