Spanish police

34 years ago I went to the World Cup in Spain. Can anybody remember the police in Madrid forming a long corridor and forcing England fans in groups of 4 or 5 to leave the bar they were in; and then attacked them with batons, punches and kicks. This was unprovoked! Nothing has changed since then! The Spanish police are bastards. Funnily enough, the 'Basque' police in Bilbao were completely different, very friendly and welcoming.
Yes indeed fascist habits die hard!!!

I'd encourage any City fans who visited Madrid to message City. City should be making a complaint about the policing so it doesn't happen again.
What a joke. As if they would give a fuck. If the the club was serious they would put up the money for those who suffered unprovoked attacks to take legal action against these bastards. But don't expect a positive outcome the authorities in Madrid still refuse to prosecute individuals suspected of human right abuses during the Franco era.

i didnt go yesterday but the police at the real madrid game a couple of years back were the same then too. just looked like they were dying to crack a few english heads in for no reason at all. they were acting like they just didnt want any city fans there tbh. i know a bolton fan who went to their atletico away in the uefa cup and it was the same there too. a total opposite to the treatment from the german police in our schalke, hamburg and bayern away matches. the germans seem to know how to steward a football match correctly from what i've seen. the spanish police are a total joke.

Covered in bruises today trying to protect my 6 month pregnant girlfriend from the batton wielding thugs. Absolute scum.

I was not there so can't really comment on what happened. But to say that this is down to a lack of communication skill is bullshit. This is a deep rooted cultural problem within this police force and indeed many other forces around the globe. A lot of these guys enjoy this violence and sorry to say but they are SCUM
Exactly hiding behind their uniform knowing in their country nothing will be done(I really hope those of you affected kick up a fuss enough to shame the people above into acting on it for once... it's sad but that's usually what it comes down to), giving it the large one but when out of uniform I bet they wouldn't be so sure of themselves. They need to do psychological tests before they recruit these people, any showing signs of insecurity that could lead to this kind of thing need to be shown the door or taught how to deal with it properly.

I don't get why? Do they have a preconception all us Brits are drunken thugs and take a hard line from the off? They don't mess about in the resorts either when I've watched some Costa Del Street Crime or other programme in the past.

Bill couldn't take the pace, he left me about 4ish to get his head down for an hour or so

Seems we got conned yesterday those beers @ €1.50 you actually get this size tonight for your €1.50 :)

We headed off to the game at about 8.15 from a tapas bar within 200 m of the ground.
Saw the City fans being kettled into the monolith of a shithole stadium . All the home fans turnstiles were empty, City's entrance was backing up, maybe 8-900 fans . 100 at a time moving 50 yards.
Got bro the bottom of the stairs just as they scored . Saw what was going on , had a pop at the City liaison staff ( couldn't do a thing brw) gave my ticket to a City fan who'd lost his passport , money etc and fucked off.
Backward third world policing , backed up by spineless EUFA fuckwits .
I saw one guy with his hands taped behind his back , shoved face first into a wall outside the ground .
I was in the bar from last time where the Charlton chairman gets a kicking and vowed I wouldn't return . Big mistake .
Fuck em , off to the Brexit thread

My Mrs is from Madrid and the police are known to be pretty brutal! At recent demos they have been filmed beating innocent men and women with their batons. Politically they are a mess and the right wing government seem to treat the general normal public like utter shit. I mean you can personally face a 10,000 fine for attending demos and protests now in Spain, they are slowly eroding all basic rights. And it's these people who ultimately allow the police to do what they want.

There are also three types of police in Spain and the ones that police football are the local police, basically the lowest ones. There's a joke that anyone who fails schools goes into the local police.

It's a shame because Madrid is a fantastic city and the general Spanish people are awesome.

I was there mate, thankfully we had gone round the corner to another bar.
Came back to see the lads be battened out of the Pub.
They are a shower of shit and I wish every one on them the Plagues of Egypt.

Seem more trouble than they are worth these Euro aways. I had my tea in El rincon and then watched on the sofa and was in bed 35 seconds after the final whistle and cost me £0.

Just asked the in-laws if it's on their news and it's not. However there is news on drunken city fans causing a number of disturbances and smashing up bars... Obviously doesn't excuse the thuggish behaviour of the police! but I guess English fans don't have a very good rep abroad for a reason.

Let's see if our new head of Security takes it further.
Not that It will do any good, but it would be nice to know he's on our side.
I was at that bar when the Charlton chairman got battered and vowed not to go again
But as you do, went again, you hope thin

Strange, never heard this from anyone over there (just got back) be interested to know if your in laws could provide further
information on this, where/when.

Apologies if I caused offense bud, I was just going off my own experiences of previously attending football throughout Spain in the past 15yrs.
I wasn't there for this fixture and from reading accounts of other posters after my post I've learnt of the situation more and have changed my views.

No worries mate. Before last night I'd not had any big issues with the police at previous matches in Spain. However, I didn't do Madrid in 2012 and by all accounts that wasn't pretty either.

I'll try and find out more details. it was just on their local news apparently, a few disgruntled bar owners and locals. Probably a slow news day
