guess next season's squad

Haha well perhaps. But the way I see it were trusting pep to develop players way beyond their apparent ceiling.

From what I've seen cresswell is very good on the ball, off the ball can be coached and were likely to have the ball the majority of the time anyway.

Dax's shout or Hector is good, I almost put ghoulam. Seems like things went a bit quiet in Gaya.

But we need to buy some squad players with lower expectations too, hungry players and one's with a point to prove.
In all honesty I wouldn't know where to begin in finding the solution to that position.Rose, perhaps even Bertrand,is superior to Creswell IMO but neither excite me to a degree that I would be happy with them as first choice for the next few years. As for our academy? I see nothing there either.

Its a chronic problem.

Id like Rose but I can't imagine how expensive it'd be.

I think Clichy is so solid he can do it for a season while we fix the glaring issues at cb, wings and cm and a back up st. Same goes for sagna in my opinion.

I could leave stones too really if it gave us the budget for kroos, Dybala and laporte.

I agree, I can't see Pep going with 4-2-3-1 either. I reckon a 4-3-3 setup but if we secure the ball playing cb's that pep craves then the formation can then change to 3-4-3 or whatever he chooses

After reading that Pep Confidential I reckon he'll go for a flexable 4-3-3 or 3-2-4-1

Im not convinced Clichy is a Pep player, his technical ability isn't the best, however,he wont be going anywhere,in the short term at least, and he will be utilised.

Asks the question....even if Clichy is first choice, what of the back up? It worries me greatly that Kolarov shows no signs of moving on.

I know everyone kinda hates kolarov now for a whole host of reasons, but I honestly think rested and motivated he can put in 6/10 or 7/10s with some attacking highlights and some defensive mistakes.

You know I like him and even I say now is the right time for him to go, but I don't rule out pep unlocking a decent player in there for another year.

It maybe it's because Angelino is set for promotion.

I've said enough over the years on Kolarov,i'll leave it there.

Angelino? Unfortunately, after my initial very high hopes......i don't think he's good enough,he gets bullied too easily and his defensive abilities are poor.

The mirror seem to think he'd be available for as little as £15m so that would be a big yes from me!

I would be concerned about Angelino as a fullback. But as a wingback if we're playing sometimes with a back 3 ? Or even doing a Lahm & taking up various midfield positions. Imo he is a very very talented footballer but not perhaps good enough defensively to be an out & out left back.

It would be a shame though, to lose out on his other attributes just down to position, without first trying him out.

We'd require three very mobile and intelligent centre halves but that's a system that would suit him for sure, his obvious weaknesses being far less exposed.

Well if it's true we're signing Stones & Laporte plus bringing back Denayer, then it leans towards a 3 at least some of the time. Of course we could see Fernandinho or even Kean Bryan as part of that too.

Pep's teams previously have utilised excellent wide attackers, of which we have just one in Sterling. I can't see us buying a starter and reserves in these positions, so maybe 2 up front is an option?

Hart
Sagna Stones Laporte Rose
Kompany
Fernandinho Gundogan
KDB
Aguero Kane
with a reserve of
Rulli
Maffeo Otamendi Mangala Clichy
Denayer
Byrne Delph
Silva
Iheanacho Sterling

Hart, Caballero, Wright
Rose, Clichy, Kompany, Laporte, Otamendi, Mangala, Denayer, Sagna, Zabaleta, Maffeo
Gundogan, Fernandinho, Manu Garcia, Fernando, Delph
De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Silva, Sterling, Nasri, Navas
Aguero, Iheanacho,

Can't see two up top...did he ever use it at all?

No, but he's never needed to as he's always had outstanding wide forwards. Walked into Barca with Messi and Henry either side of Eto'o, then Pedro took over from Henry, Villa took over from Eto'o (with Messi shifting to the middle) and Sanchez came in to share the load with Villa and Pedro. Then at Bayern he had Ribery, Robben, Shaqiri, Muller and Gotze who could all play as attacking wingers. Over time, as they aged or moved on, he replaced them with Costa and Coman.

We currently have just Sterling who I'd be happy seeing as a wide man in a front 3. KDB, Silva and Nasri are all far better in the centre of the park and Navas isn't good in front of goal. None of Aguero, Nacho or Bony have ever excelled out wide either.

So, as I see it, to regularly play 3 forwards, with back up options, we need to be signing 3 attacking wide players this summer. That doesn't feel like a good plan.

This is why I've argued winger is our biggest need. But in fairness, we only need One starter. The backups will be Celina, Kele and likely Zichencho if it goes through. Not to mention, Nasri, Silva and DeBryune can play their at a push.

We just need Sterling to kickbinto 2nd gear and get a starter opposite him.

Fixed it.

if TH is on the ball (and we do pull it off) our midfield/attacking midfielder options are going the very strong:
Kroos
Fernandihnio
pogba
gudongen
silva
nasri
kdb
sterling

and thats presuming that navas , yaya, fernando both go and god knows where delph fits into that as well

Thinking about next seasons squad hopefully Kolarov leaves freeing up no11, bony 14, Navas 15 and not saying they definitely will but I'd imagine Zabba, Fernando and Nasri are being considered for the exit list freeing up 5,6 and 8;

1 Hart
2 Vrsaljko
3 Angelino
4 Kompany
5 Stones
6 Pogba
7 Sterling
8 Gundogan
9 Iheanacho
10 Aguero
11 Sane
12 Rulli
14 De Bruyne
15 Laporte
16 Coric
17 Kroos
18 Delph
19
20
21 Silva
22 Clichy
24 Coric
25 Fernandinho
26 Maffeo
27 (Roberts)
28 Denayer
29
30
That's assuming that De Bruyne changes of course otherwise him and Kroos could be the other way around (I put Gundogan over Kroos at #8 as he signed first)
