N'Golo Kante

4 high quality midfielders will be too hard to squeeze in.

3 will do with Fernando and Delph as the lower backups.

You really do like comparing Apples and Oranges don't you?
If I wanted an attacking player and age was not an issue then yes, I would try and get Payet (29).
If I wanted a player to dramatically improve the team's defending then Kante is the man.
Was just suggesting how much I liked Payet. Not really comparing

Just give Fernando and Delph to NY or Melbourne. Wasting spaces in our squad so they are.

Although I do think Fernando showed signs of a decent player this season and Delph earlier in the season...neither can be depended upon for a full season.

Kantes clause is fairly low and I'd take anything over 8m for Fernando and bring in Kante. Kante is a much much better fit than Fernando and has the energy to cover anything.

If we cannot acquire anyone major in midfield than Gundogan I'd look at Kante.

French media have been saying since the season ended the four clubs in for Kante are PSG, City, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

I haven't paid him much attention at Leicester but watched him carefully last night, which I understand was a typical performance, and was impressed. My only concern about going for him is that he is not a tall player and it is useful in the Prem to have some height throughout the team so a pairing of him and Gundogan would be a bit short-arse. A minor point though as I'm sure the benefits would outweigh.

I hope we are monitoring his situation carefully.

Would be a brilliant player for us.
Exceptional positional play, great in the tackle, better passing than any other DM in the league and just does not stop running!!
What is there not to like?

Totally agree. Whoever gets him will have a massive advantage in winning the league. For the money required to get him, it's a steal. I really hope it's us.

wouldn't take him, I don't think he's legitimate sadly and it would come back to haunt us if we signed him.

Yeah, the entire season he just played where he conquered every team he faced and made albrighton and drinkwater look world class pretty much show him to be a fraud, coupled with outshining Pogba at his own game on the world stage last night. Definitely not legit.

Someone get the face palm gifs.

Mate Mahrez just put out performed our entire team, are you suggesting he's better (or as dax would say 'currently') than KDB, silva, nasri??

You measure success over more than one season chief, otherwise you'll end up with a Michael rickets every 1/2... He's decent, on current form, excellent, but using last nights game is naive to say the least!!

He didn't have a hot streak, he had a dominant season. I'd agree on judging a skill player or striker over a longer period, but you could see everything in him that is a constant and form won't change-work rate, tackle timing, quick hand off of ball etc.

While everyone is talking about Payet last night, just look at Kante's role leading up to that goal. It was 2 or 3 influential link ups to keep that ball in that zone to give France the chance to make something happen.

He has everything Makalele had and probably more pace to his game. We'd be mad to not be in for him, he has superstar all over him. Wherever he ends up next will see that team do great things.

They don't?

Bayern do, Barcelona do, both Madrids do. Juventus do.
Fuck me even Liverpool, Arsenal & United have 5 or 6 international centre mids.

Last year we had Toure, Fernando, Delph and Fernandinho.
Delph and Fernando aren't up to it at the highest level. Toure isn't anymore and going.
So that leaves us with two of the required standard. Plus an additional signing.
Leaving us three players of required ability.
One with injury issues, one in his 30's and a 3rd yet to be named.

That won't be good enough.

Name me the players at any of the clubs you mention that have 5 CM players at Fernandinho and Gündoğan level? We definitely need to strengthen but I think we'll sign one more and keep Fernando.

And as much as I love what kdb brings to the table, he's proven he isn't the man to press and chase. So those behind him need to be as eager as Kante. Perfect for Pep IMO.

I like his energy and he has a decent range of passing (cf. Fernando and Delph). I think we'd be in for him but probably been told he wants Arsenal.
