There has been no substantial increase in immigration.

On average we have 330,000 net immigrants and migrants each year, that's roughly in line with most other western nations.

A problem Cameron saddled himself with is that during the general election he stated ridiculously low numbers he was aiming for which he could never meet.
Nonsense.

Fact:
During the 1990s, there was mostly a positive trend in net migration as these flows surged from minus 13,000 (i.e. net emigration) in 1992 to positive 163,000 in 1999. In the 2000s there was a significant increase in net migration that coincided with the 2004 EU enlargement and the opening of UK labour markets to workers from the so-called Accession 8 (A8) countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia), plus Malta and Cyprus. Migrants from the A8 countries have accounted for a significant portion of recent net migration. ONS figures suggest the share of recent net migration attributed to citizens of A8 countries is about 19% of total net migration since 2005; it is worth noting that this share is likely to be higher but the revised net figures do not include a breakdown by citizenship.

Total net migration to the UK during 1991-2014 stands at approximately 3,979,000 migrants. Average annual net migration to the UK during 2004-2014 was 245,000, which represents about three to four times the annual average of 65,000 during the period 1991-1999.

Great post. I'm afraid it's lost on them, though. The Brexits have tuned everything out. They are determiined to make their Lickle England even mote lickle. They think it's a referendum about immigration. They're being exploited by the likes of Gove and Johnson and it's a deeply unattractive spectacle. The word Lemmings comes to mind.

Go out tiomorrow and vote for recession.

Still at it Scaremonger vote recession hahahaha

Pam in 2008 were we in the EU?

Yeah know where you,re at. But 2million brits live abroad, some working, some retired, probably a burden on the spanish?.
But we are all on a rock spinning round in space, black, white,or any variation, all cultures will benefit from more integration".

Not at all - the Spanish love having these Brits spending their pensions there. Money earned elsewhere but spent on you is great.

I love other cultures but I think the EU has ruined the unique identity of it's member states.

The BBC fact check and the site Full Fact gave the reason for this. I can't remember exactly what it was.

It didn't mean however there were immigrants uncounted for.

It was more an administration thing.

They suggest that people here temporarily shouldn't be counted. I'd argue that regardless of how long they intend to be here, if they're applying for an NI number then they're here to work and then they will need access to at least transport, power, health and housing.

The official figures are collected by asking people at ports and airports whether they are staying for longer than a year, which seems like a method full of holes.

So this is what's making it seem sane to you to vote for a potential recession, more austerity, job losses and the break up of the UK. Well done to you. What are you going to do when the Brexit opportunists do fuck all about the immigration issue, seeing how fond they are of cheap labour and how keen they are to start a bonfire of regulations and workers rights.

This is irresponsible . This is crazy. People are actually going to vote for what Farage is describing as the UKIP manifesto. I thought this country was better than that. I thought the British people were tolerant to a fault. This is very ugly stuff.

I'm not angry about anything. Just pointing out how rapidly net migration has risen to completely disprove your false assertion.

It rose rapidly from 1991 but that was 25 years ago.

For the past 15 years it's been steady and in line with other countries.

As City stu said " the Spanish love the Brits", can we not "love the Poles?, the Spanish?,the Turks,?.
What does that say about us?.

We do love them individually. I work with Poles, Italians, Belgians and Australians and they're all great.

My concern on immigration is purely to do with numbers. Brits in Spain aren't making it very difficult for young Spaniards to buy property and they aren't undercutting Spaniards for similar work to drive down wages.

It says we should just love other Europeans?

Seems to me that the remain camp want to have a 2-tier system and treat people from outside Europe differently to those from Europe, while the leave campaign would apply the same conditions to all people, regardless of nationality.

In what sense is that true? I am genuinely interested.

Again nonsense.

Fact:
1995: 76,000
2005: 267, 000
2015: 333, 000

Or if you want to look at a shorter time scale:

2012: 177,000 The start of the latest migration trend.
2013: 209,000
2014: 318,000
2015: 333.000 Approaching peak or outliner year?

The likes of Nigel Farage are not an antidote to that.....oh but wait. I've just seen the latest poll. I think Brexit are out of steam.
