British politics has been in a bad way for a while now. The state of the country reflects that.
The manner in which this vote has come about and the reasoning behind it has little to do with mainstream politicians or political parties though. Their (leave) campaign was an overtly racist campaign which mobilised lots of people to vote. Now i've seen in the other thread as well that people are getting very very pissy if they are accused of being racists for voting to leave the EU. Well the reality is that their vote, whatever their own personal rationale, propped up the racist agenda of UKIP and Farrage. That is deeply disappointing for someone who is British by birth and by attitude, but who isn't white and who knows that their life in Britain will be irrevocably changed by this vote.
We will have to agree to disagree mate on the reasons why people voted to leave, myself included and whilst ive no doubt some where motivated purely by immigration and no doubt racist opinions, i dont for one minute accept it covers the majority or myself and i dont believe a Britain outside of the EU will suddenly become a right wing playground either.
I get pissy at being called a racist or the insinuation that by my vote i am because its just not true.
In the same way I've no doubt some remain voters are also not very nice people in life but wouldn't dream of accusing all remain voters of sharing the same views or indiscretions.
Had our politicians consulted the British public over the last 40 years with every major change to what was an agreement to enter a common market, im almost certain we would have said yes and last Thursday would never have happened. They didn't and are now paying the price in the same way politicians across Europe are in danger of paying the price if they dont realise they cant just do what they want without the will of their people.
Politics needs to change forever and for the good and we need a new breed coming through that represents everyone in society, not just the few.
