Paul Pogba

If he went to United it wouldn't necessarily mean we never wanted him. It could just mean that we didn't want or need him enough to make him the undisputed main man at the club. United don't have any superstars at Aguero or KDB's level at the moment. Whilst I'm sure we can afford it, paying the massive wages he's asking for might upset the balance in our squad. United are at a point where they need to make a statement of intent and reaffirm their position as one of the big boys. There aren't really any players on their books who could demand to be held in as high esteem as Pogba.

I don't disagree with any of that. There's several perfectly understandable reasons for us not to be in for him, and it won't be the end of the world if he ends up in the premier league at a club that isn't City i just think we'd regret not getting him if indeed he goes there and we had the option to get him but declined.

I dunno lads, Pep Guardiola or Ninjamonkey on squad building. Who do you trust more?

Was waiting for this. The now generic response for any opinion whatsoever that might not go with what the club believe/are doing. I think Pogba is a top class player and if he goes to United we'll look back and regret not bringing him here, is that such a wrong opinion to have just because the people in charge might think differently? The whole "I'll trust Pep more than you" comment that pops up on almost every single thread is a ridiculous thing to say. Are we not allowed to have opinions anymore? Shall we just close the forum down now? Because none of us on here are more qualified than anybody working at City and therefore anything we say that isn't 100% agreeing with everything the club does is invalid and not worth reading.

You're allowed to have an opinion.

I'm allowed to highlight it's stupid that you think your opinion on squad building carries more weight than Pep Guardiola's.

You mean Pep Guardiola's opinion is more informed? Maybe the decision not to follow up on Pogba is because Utd have blown us out of the water and it has nothing to do as to whether Pep rates the player or not? It's opinion. I'd buy Pogba because he is the best player available, and also because it could revitalise Man Utd.

ffs De Gea is a bang average keeper who has been hyped up by their media dept. Any striker worth their salt knows that if you kick it under his legs it'll go in.

Dont believe the hype.

C'mon mate, I don't think even you believe that. It's OK to acknowledge that United have some decent players, y'know.

City could have Pogba if we wanted, do you honestly think we couldn't match or come close enough to United's bid? Reports have even said that he'd prefer City, rather than going back to United. It's clear he isn't part of Pep's plans and doesn't fit his style anyway.

Further, buying a player just to stop United from getting said player is foolish.

Then i can point out how utterly stupid it is for you assume i think my opinion carries more weight than Pep's purely on the basis that it's seemingly different.

Just a thought - is Pogpa to Real funded by Bale to us out of the question? In a years time with us funding Juve with the Italian defender in the meanwhile?

It's more than a bit disingenuous that some people are questioning his ability now that he's being closely linked with United. The mooted transfer fee is hugely inflated, of course, but his talent is not in any doubt. He's an exceptional player who would greatly improve any team.
He wouldn't GREATLY improve Barca, Real Madrid or Bayern, but he is a quality player, no doubt.

Seems the world and his wife incl Ballegue says Pogba going to Rags. Tolmie says no. Thoughts Tolmie

Those figures are absurd. Even the "It's not your money" brigade have got to agree that paying out that kind of money for Pogba is ludicrous.

We could bring in Kroos, Kante and another top drawer player for that kind of money and their total wages wouldn't be a huge amount more than Pogba's reported 300k p/w demands.

If they do sign Pogba. Between him, Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan and Bailly, they've whacked nearly 40,000,000 on top of their yearly wage bill.
