Truck Runs into Crowd in Nice

Wait a minute. If someone wants to use a lorry to kill people, how do the security services stop them?
That's the worrying thing, Pam. They can't possibly keep track of everybody suspected of being radicals.

Plus, there is always 'clean' (unknown to security services) members of these organisations.

Yeah. Apparently, ISIS and their ilk were encouraging people to use road vehicles as weapons just a few weeks ago. Although now they've found guns and granades in the vehicle as well.

Just watching this on CNN and not five minutes after one of their news anchors is going ballistic at people for posting pictures and videos of dead people on social media, they switch to a new anchor and show pictures of a pile of dead bodies, plus a video of the truck going through people. The anchor was also trying to say one of their sources said the truck was accelerating into the crowd when he corrected her that he said no such thing. They've also been trying to repeat that the truck was moving fast, and two callers on the scene have denied this already. Why the fuck do they have to sensationalise it!? Is a truck killing 73 people and injuring god knows how many more not sensational enough!? Pathetic behaviour.

Celebrations will have to be held with a certain area with road blocks in place. Who wants to celebrate in those scenarios.
I know what you're saying but it sounds a bit joyless. Plus, who is to stop someone doing the exact same things to shoppers on an ordinary work day?

What i'm watching said it was 2014. They're groping as usual.

Just need to know if the dead driver was acting alone.

Is our privacy more important than our lives? Not in a million years.

'Is our privacy more important than our lives?' I'm not sure how anyone can oppose that really. If big brother has to know about everything that I do / have done but that knowledge ultimately saves one of my family, then just do it as quickly as possible. I've got absolutely no problem expanding that to include the lives of all decent people whoever you are.

completely disagree. Security services these days will end up saying they knew they had links to them because people who engage in this sort of atrocity leave traces. More often than not the problem is security services want to go after the juicier fish and decide not to follow up closely enough on "minor" players who end up causing this shit.

No need for them to hack our privacy, and there never will be.

I know what you're saying and I agree that powers have been mis-used in the past. What I was advocating was proper, legit intelligence gathering to monitor all, in order to target the people doing this type of atrocity. We surely can't expect our security forces to protect us but not give them a powerful tool to help them?

This assumes we have only the option of big brother. I would like to think we can self moderate better than those in power think we can. Now this is the tricky bit...

What mechanism would allow for greater scrutiny and less intereference from a centralised monopoly of power who would trample over the rights of the individual for the greater good?

Some distressing films on social media.

Not sure why anyone would want to watch them. I have absolutely no desire to see innocent people being slaughtered so I will avoid clicking on any links to them.

they already have immensely powerful tools to help them.

Only got stronger since then, difference is some countries use it all better than others.
