So given we just signed our 2nd German into the squad, who are the Germans who have played for us over the years. And what are your stand out memories of their time at City. I can think of a few and they have all been class.

This was my first thought.

I can think of a few who have been less good. Eike Immel and Michael Frontzeck spring to mind. Stefan Karl's goal away at The Dell is a fond memory though.

Just joined us bookies missed the fact he took rocket free kicks....40/1 very nice.

Errrrr, Uwe!

I didn’t want to just list them as (1) I’d miss someone and get abused and (2) it would defeat the purpose of the forum. My top 3;

So yes Uwe was class and very much my era.
Gaudino’s 20 games for city will live long in the memory for those that witnessed them.
Trautman – before my time but what a story!

Maurizio Gaudino was a class act he'd be my number 1 , don't remember Bert. The fact that Immel was cross eyed was always a worry! Good shot stopper terrible keeper.

Was talking to my taxi driver who takes me to the airport a few years ago about why he supported City (he's from Blackburn) and it went back to when he was a kid watching Rovers v City at Ewood. He was sat on the wall behind the goal with his dad and asked Bert Trautmann for his autograpgh. Bert got him on the pitch to take some shots at him in the warm up and signed his programme. After the game his Dad made him write a letter to Bert thanking him, not really expecting anything back (i guess that was the kind of done thing back in those days). Anyway, few weeks later he got a hand written letter back from Bert with a signed City programme from him and some of the players. Every year going forwards whist Bert played for City he sent him a signed programme and written letter so he instantly fell in love with City after that.

Just shows how different times are now, can't imagine many players being able to write a letter these days, let alone taking the time to actually bother with something like that.

Good thread! But could we change the thread title to correct German?
"Große Deutsche Blues"

Didi Hamann Pineapple did a job (the quality of that job is open to debate)

Jerome Boateng of course
