Marc-Andre ter Stegen

I wasn't going to comment on the video because I only watched 3 mins of it myself.
Other than the 2 occasions when he chested the ball down and played it straight out to a defender (which was quite impressive).
What else did you see other that short, simple passes out to a defender?
And before anyone else jumps down my throat, I'm just asking Rammy what he saw.

There are countless long and short passes that beat 2 or 3 players, which is a huge advantage. But it's a highlight reel, you'd expect as much. What's more important is his comfort level. His defenders are more than willing to pass him balls even in tight positions because they're confident he can handle it and get it back to him. Lets him participate and allows the FBs to be a little more up the pitch, trusting the pass will be a good one. The CBs can split properly far and know the pass won't be underhit or overhit. This entire system is built around inviting pressure onto the Keeper and back 4 in order to create space for the midfielders and attackers as they spring forward. You're begging strikers and wingers to close out the keeper and CBs and lob a pass over them to advanced FBs who now have options available in front of them. You want to get the strikers forward and the wingers out onto those FBs so you can pass to an unmarked pivot with acres of space in front of him, etc. You can't play this with a keeper who just taps the ball out to a CB to deal with or one who puts the other players under pressure with poorly weighted or overhit passes. The passing range must be large and the comfort to have players running at him must be very high. Which is on display all day in that video.

In a perfect world, I'd rather Hart be able to do 80% of this than go get Ter Stegen. But I think it's crystal clear why we are linked.

Would rather have bravo. He is old, so joe won't feel like he is being replaced. Short term fix, but that isexactly what we need. 2 years for joe to shape up or, im afraid, ship out, which would be devastating tbh

Joe is done mate. He's part of an outdated city now. Sad to say...can see him leaving in next 6 months.

Domalino, take a bow.

To be completely honest, I love Joe but I think there is a zero percent chance he's Pep's first choice keeper by year 3. I think it's about 25% he is by year 2.

Completely agree.
Joe's days in a City shirt are numbered.
He has been a great player and ambassador for the club but his poor distribution will be his nemesis from here in.
Great shot stopping alone is no longer good enough for where we need to go.

I remember when he could catch the ball perfectly even posts sven, then came this punch the ball thing still stupid,he's long kicks are usually very good, why can't he learn under pep still young in keeper terms IMO

I saw a guy who was cool as a cucumber under pressure, fantastic control, capable of using both feet, ran quickly to make space for the return ball, never hoofed it at all.

Exactly I'd like to know how many times joe kicked it out for a throw last year
Re giving the other team possession

Dont think this will happen barca wont ant to sell as would be very hard to replace, and the player would want to make a success there.
I don't think Barca will be able to keep both TS and Bravo - both will want to be the starting keeper. I think we'll end up with Bravo since Barca seem to have chosen TS as their number one.

Fucking hell mate, every time WE had a throw in we gave the opposition possession....
Aww don't mention our throw ins - I've been trying desperately to wipe the memory of them from my mind.

How nice is it going to be seeing us at least try and retain possession from a throw?

I read this alot but dont you think this was on the orders of the manager. Think about it hoofing the ball down the middle of the park (where we have no height) would inevitably lead to the ball being headed straight back where it came from putting us under pressure. By kicking to the touchline we had Kolarov and Sagna who are OK in the air but if they missed it the ball went out for a throw in on the half way line and we could sit back and defend. What will be different this year is that both full backs or CB's will be expected to split wide and the GK will be expected to pass the ball to them and also be expected to receive a pass back and pass it out again and we shall see how that develops over this year

If that happens, Pep is truly a genius. In all the years I've been going, City throw ins have been consistently terrible , whoever the manager and the players have been. I've always thought there was a sign in the dressing room telling the players they'd be heavily fined if they took a quick throw or if they didn't stand stock still whenever we had a throw in!

Pretty much. It's widely touted that neither will, nor should, accept anything less than being number one for everything at Barca. Bravo has earned his place and has the advantage of being brought in by Enrique only two years ago. But ter Stegen is the future and will ultimately be much more difficult for Barca to let go of.

My opinion: Either City ponies up for ter Stegen's release clause, and we probably won't, or it's likely going to be Bravo. And that's good too.

Its probably me and I'm in a huge minority, but a fan from another team coming onto BM and stating that one of our players is finished doesn't seem right. More than happy to have input from other fan bases, but this I find quite wrong.

As I say, probably just me

Not just you.

Mr Egg loves a match day thread as well....especially if we are getting beat or playing poorly.
