Großer deutscher Blues

I can think of a few who have been less good. Eike Immel and Michael Frontzeck spring to mind. Stefan Karl's goal away at The Dell is a fond memory though.
Yeah, Karl's goal pretty much kept us up in 94. I remember some partner being on at our house, but I went into the front room and listened to the game on GMR and bouncing round the room with my dad when it went in. Though his debut was an anticlimax- he'd been billed as the hardest free kick taken in Europe, and the excitement round the ground when we got one v Sheff U was palpable. Straight at the keeper.

As for Frontzeck - the 1st memory that springs to mind is of him literally running someone over with his body in first game of 96/97 season v (I think) Reading and getting sent off. Maybe it was QPR. Or someone else entirely!

And for the record I think Uwe is probably my fave ever City player.

Uwe Rosler

Last season, if a few of our players had shown the application and desire that Uwe showed for every match, we'd have won that league.

Nothing but fond memories for the guy......and the fact he, a German, named his son Colin, after Colin Bell, shows his feelings towards City

Think Frontzeck's home debut was against QPR (his full debut was away at Southampton a few days earlier), and from what I can recall he played pretty well. He just got progressively worse after that. Don't remember him being sent off in that game though?

Maurizio Gaudino was a class act he'd be my number 1 , don't remember Bert. The fact that Immel was cross eyed was always a worry! Good shot stopper terrible keeper.

Haha he actually WAS cross-eyed, which just about sums up the 90's for us! But Uwe is always my number one, I remember Gaudino scoring against Liverpool, Michael Frontzeck I was looking up on wiki recently, he only played for one season but I remember the harsh penalty against him at Old Trafford in the cup (interestingly went into management recently at St. Pauli & Borussia Monchengladbach amongst others).

But Tarnat's free kick (hopeless otherwise), Hamann's great season under Sven, Boateng who has won everything but couldn't displace Micah Richards, and Stefan Karl anyone...?

Oh, Gundogan too, I hear he's not bad.

Yes this rings a bell us having a player with the fastest shot... or am I thinking of Nicky Summerbee?

Just remember headlines in the MEN saying he had (in the words of Partridge) ' a foot like a traction engine'.

As for Summerbee, pretty sure he won fastest shot competition on Record Breakers with Roy Castle! 87 mph if my memory serves me right...

It was the first game of the next season when he got sent off - after we'd been relegated in '96. Apparently was against Ipswich. We won a very nervy 1-0, Lomas scored but we were proper hanging on.

Ah, sorry mate - misread your original post. You're quite right.

Mixed fortunes with our German players, Immel was without doubt the worst goal keeper who ever played football anywhere throughout the history of the game. Uwe great, Burt - legend.

Correct German would be "Der große deutsche Blues" or "Großer deutscher Blues"

Changed for the 2nd time - nur für Sie Pedanten!

Uwe Rosler was my first hero. Hes even named his kid Colin ffs. Legend.

Agreed! I was at the reserve game when he played as a trialist! He looked the business from the 1st minute he pulled on the shirt. Legend!

Great memory! Was he a blue at the time?

Gah! Except the original was plural and you've made it singular. Or rather, you've made the first half singular and left "Blues" plural. :)

It should either be " Grosse Deutsche Blues" or "Die grossen deutschen Blues" depending on whether you want the definite or indefinite article. Or even..... "Die größten deutschen Blues" (the greatest German blues)

But you're right, this is for pedants now, so don't change it again, I'll just live with wincing when I look at it ;)

Goodness. The grammar is correct, but you've lost the meaning.
"Der große deutsche Blues" sounds like a famous music style in the 70s, whereas
"Großer deutscher Blues" could entitle the great depression of the late 1920s.
Neither does make sense. (Never trust a Bayern fan... ;) )

Honestly, the German lads came to City to kick and eat and live and talk the English way. It's your forum. I also truly appreciate the symbolic act putting the title in German. But before we lose the right meaning, and us Germans like to read and write in English - just put it YOUR way. :)

Back to topics, I've never heard of Trautmann before me mate from Manchester told me about it. What a great story that is. Knowing the circumstances back in those days. I always like when football is more than goals or titles and when it comes to a better understanding, or just call it respect.

Trouble is, he was trapping the ball, at the time.
