I agree football is about making the right choices. I just noticed it because all the talk has been about the keeper playing it out from the back. I rate Joe as a better keeper than Willy but he doesn't appear to be able to play a short passing game. Every time Willy has played since he came to the club, he seems to be able to find players by rolling the ball out. Trouble is he can't catch crosses and isn't a very good shot stopper.tbf though i dont think they should be passing it out every time, as we saw with willy he put the defenders under so much pressure at times and passed out when he didn't need to.

This is essentially what I need to keep reminding myself of. There's some stuff going on that feels totally counter intuitive to me. At times I get this horrible sense that this is going to be Pellegrini all over again. Got to keep reminding myself that this is a different kettle of fish and that he knows what he is doing.
They should have a Pep Cam so we can watch his reactions and the directives he's giving. From what we saw yesterday he's very animated and full of instructions. There was a lot of criticism last year for the players not acknowledging the fans. I noticed yesterday that he had to tell the players to go over to the fans at the endSome may have missed it but as soon as he did that and the ball went forward you seen Pep look straight at Joe and i bet it wasn't a smile he had on his face that is for sure.
I'm thinking when Pellegrini first came in and all we heard was high line, defending on the front foot and that it was more important to him that defenders were comfortable on the ball than anything else. People were saying that players like Lescott's days were numbered before a competitive ball had even been kicked despite the fact that he had been a huge part of the best defence in the country for two seasons. And then he stuck Garcia in at centre back v Cardiff despite Nastasic being available and one of our players of the previous season. I remember thinking lots of things just felt counter intuitive to me at the time. I feel the same now to some extent, Joe likely to go because he can't pass, Kolarov put in central defence despite there being options that you would think are more logical. I am sure it's my fault for being an old stick in the mud. I like the idea of being tight defensively and feel slightly weary of it all especially after a few years of watching Pellegrini dismantle the defence supposedly to put one together that could use the ball only to find out that we apparently need to play full backs and midfielders in central defence because the defence still can't pass.Even in the few pre season minutes I've seen the team looks TOTALLY different to Pellegrini's side. Weird weird comparison for me. Unless it's just about playing a very high defensive line and being susceptible to the counter attack - in which case I've been saying for three years that's the future and isn't going to change because the manager changes.

some will but the likes of delph, fernando and kolorov are extremely limited footballers in comparison to most pro's....delph has an amazing engine on him but that is about it
For the love of God can someone please tell me what we pay coaches to do? I keep hearing about football players, professional football players, who aren't 'comfortable' on the ball. WELL FUCKING PRACTICE MORE YOU ****. Try doing a 4 hour working fucking day instead of 2, spend time after training just passing the fucking ball to each other. I've never heard anything like it. They are at the very to of their profession yet can't do the basic thing that their profession requires......pass the ball. It's like gerring an electrician in to do some jobs on your house, then him saying 'I'll flick the switches on the consumer unit, but you'll have to do the rewiring yourself as I'm not that comfortable with that side of the job'.
