Celtic v City post match

They've lost 3 champions league group stage games at home. Less than us, and they've been in it more
And how've they done away?

As I said in the prematch thread, the majority of their players are Championship level but their home crowd is one of the best in Europe and they perform beyond their abilities in front of them. They usually fall apart away from home which is when we get a fair reflection of their ability.

It begs the question whether teams should spend hundreds of millions on players or pay 60,000 extras to go to games and make a fuck ton of noise.

Its easy to go out and kill yourselves with physical effort in the champions league when you play in a bum league at weekends.

This is what flatters celtic and has on many occasion. Pretty much sums up last nights game, but the city defense looked a little more shaky than normal, and perhaps this will give premier league teams a pointer. Then again no stones starting.

Actually was disappointed pep didn't bring on sane at around the 70 minute mark. Feel he could have run the right side ragged...nolito was ok on the left, but sterling could have shifted across and sane would have made an impact i'm sure.

So you're just going to ignore their home form because it doesn't fit into your narrative of them being a championship team and just focus on away form. Basically just discounting half of their games? Why are you so against them anyway? Give them credit, they played as well as the could have done and certainly shut up a few on here who were predicting a thrashing.

They played very well and took their chances.

I think we'll beat them comfortably at home.

I still think with the team they have and not every match being hyped up and under floodlights etc that they'd be relegated in the Prem.

Yep. They have a history of punching above their weight at home in the CL. They have the knowledge that they're playing Dundee at the weekend, we're away to Spurs. Every point in the Prem is valuable, however if Celtic drop points against Dundee it's no great shakes, they will make them up quite easily.

It's like everybody just decided to be shit at the same time. Oh well a point is not that bad considering Barca just barely escaped BMG.

It's not a bad result in hindsight. We were certainly lethargic early on and the players, subconsciously in fairness, underestimated Celtic Park on a European night.
It's the seminal ground for champions league atmosphere.
Collectively, we were sloppy in possession, especially first half and the second and third goals were down to individual errors.
Aguero, Gundogan and the centre halfs will have better days, Zab seemed wildly out of position for the second too.
Sterling looks so dangerous now, delighted to see his form, I didn't really see that coming and I'm happy to be proved wrong.
I still think we'll cruise out of the group and are more than capable of taking four points off Barcelona if we are at our best.

Thought we played well to be honest apart from the mistakes at the back when under pressure. We have to remember though their 1st goal was offside, their 2nd was a total fluke and who does a bicycle kick only for it to come off your shin and go in the opposite direction to travel. I thought we were unlucky and had we taken our chances would of won comfortably. Celtic just did the usual Rodgers trick, they ran around like nutters for 20 minutes and then burnt out, we should of taken advantage really.

If Barcelona had lost I would say it was a bad result but they didn't so now it looks like we will need a point or better in both games at their place and ours to win the group. We should be beating Celtic at home and BMG away which puts us on 10 points. BMG have to win every single game to get above 10 points or Celtic the same which is unlikely so we should be able to progress comfortably if we at the very least beat everyone but Barcelona.

Celtic have the advantage of being able to put everything into such games, as they know the next match is against significantly weaker opposition, whereas we now have to face a technically superior team, albeit in less partisan surrounds. It was only after around the 70-75 minute that their energy levels sapped, but they made our night difficult from the off. Not quite sure that whacking the ball long from the kick-off and surrendering possession was our cleverest of moves.

1.offside
2.deflection
3.poor defending

Agree with the above and at the end of the day Celtic played out their skin and only managed a draw. Their first goal was Definately offside, and they got good fortune with the second. The 3rd should have been cut out by Kolarov but sometimes that happens.

Was always going to be a tough place to go, we will see how they fair in the return leg at our place, but in the meantime well done Celtic it was a great game to watch.

I was actually dreading Patrick Roberts coming on and then knocking in the winner, the move he did on the right wing when he showed quick feet to get away from 2 players was great.....can't wait till his loan is over and he proves himself with the first team.

Sterling was fantastic last night, growing each week under Pep.

And managed to put three past us as well. Not bad for a supposed pub side. God our fanbase has its morons.

They will finish bottom of the group. Oh, and I called them a Championship side, not a pub side, so if you're going to come on and have a go, at least get your facts right, idiot.

Atmosphere was outright oppressive, I remember saying before that I'd be happy with a draw, but this was a cup final for Celtic.

In the end, I thought City could have won it handedly but will take the point.

Gosh we can be negative. Don't post until you've had a sleep.

In short we allowed Celtic to drag us into a tear up rather than a tactical game. In short, we came through it and learnt more, at very little expense, than we ever would have by winning a dull game 1-0.

I view it as nothing but a long term positive and a damn entertaining watch to boot.

Was thinking the same re Patrick
If hed had scored and gone off wildly celebrating hed have been shot on his return

We could and should have won last night. The team seemed unprepared for the atmosphere and seemed off the pace to start with. Collective and individual mistakes cost us the three goals and there were a number of poor performances. Wether that was just us or because of the Celtic press, don't know. We undoubtedly missed Kev's drive in transition, I thought we were too slow on the break. Picking out the positives, Raheem's performances just keep getting better - he was unplayable last night. The team showed guts and character coming back three times. Bravo was good albeit his distribution was off at the beginning of the match.

On the negatives, thats the worst I have seen Serge play for a while, albeit he didn't have great support. I didn't see much of Gundogan before he came to us so will bow to the opinions of those that have watched him consistently. However, I thought he was a long way off the pace last night and Yaya has been crucified for similar performances in ECL in the past. Kolorov proved that a couple of good games do not make a top centre back and we improved defensively when JS came on. I did wonder why pep didn't bring Kelechi on for the last 10/15 minutes to see if his developing partnership with Raheem couldn't have nicked us a winner.

Fair play to Celtic who played their A+ game - it was a good rehearsal for us going on to play Liverpool and Spurs although those two have far more quality. I am confident that pep will pick all the learning out of that so the experience would have been valuable although would still have far preferred the three points! I laughed when Kolo went to Celtic but thought he was very good last night - fair play too him.

All to play for now I think, we need something in one of the Barca games and not to lose in Germany.
