European away games ticketing policy

I think the real point of this thread got lost a long time ago.

Here's my conspiracy theory ...... City want greater transparency over who is using (rather than buying) away tickets. Introduce a restrictive (in that it removes an hour of drinking time) ticket collection policy and watch all and sundry kick off. Piss yourselves laughing and promise a review .... come back and say sorry we tried but as we couldn't make it work we'll just have to impose something more restrictive (ballots) and tell all that complained that you listened to them and were left with no other option!!!

You know it'll happen hence the 57 pages of outcry.

FWIW I am firmly in the camp of those that have the points should have 1st priority on tickets. I myself am from the much maligned 13k point group. Do I want a ticket above an 18k person? Do I fuck. Do I want a ticket above anything less than 13k ..... you fucking bet I do. Sadly that point has been lost on some. We don't want your tickets if you intend to use them. We want the tickets you sell on and to which we are as much entitled as you are to the tickets ahead of us.

PSG and Madrid proved that people were buying and pasing on tickets in great numbers. Ticket collection stopped that.

I'll be in Barca and at BMG ..... chances are I'll be watching in a bar in Germany as the relaxation of the collection policy will render my points worthless.

Strangely the ballot system, the same one I and many think will be introduced, may well render your points useless for some games in the future.

Do I tink that's right? Not at all. What I do think is that you sometimes have to be careful what you wish for ....... perhaps an hour or two of your time was better than sacrificing your right (and it is your right) to a big game ticket?

City would never do that? You know they will.

Just a little reminder ..... your 18 - 20k points has certainly earned you the right to tickets ahead of me. My 13k should have earned me the right to tickets ahead of anyone with fewer points than that. It wont be the case at BMG.

It's not envy at your right to tickets ..... its more a bitterness that (in many cases) that right is sold on.

My sentiments exactly Andy albeit I think it's greater control rather than transparency the club are after.

That would totally wrong mate, no way should you or anyone else one high points miss out, personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the points system, it's the people who abuse it thats the problem, only my opinion mind

There is also the presumption that all these points came from years ago - many did but it was only in 2007/8 that I made the decision to go to every game if I could. -prior to that I had a seasoncard and went to maybe 20/25% of aways so over the last 9 years my points have risen to enable first day of sale (currently 19.5k points) so all the bollocks about it being only due to many years ago is precisely that - bollocks.

Those moaning that they can't get to "attractive" games were rarely at places like Reading away in midweek after the cup final they felt so entitled to.

Getting in to attractive games when people haven't put in the years of commitment is where touts come in.

we shouldn't have a points system. we should just have a manc system. then all the wurzuls and cockneys can be served last. that inc Harrogate and Heywood.

True but we need a few more Mancs to turn up rather than watch the games in the pub. Giving home tickets away is nigh on impossible in the last hour before kick off.

So having missed one game in 8 years and max 10 in 10 years, I now am expected to take my chances in a ballot?
The club have never suggested a ballot system, so not sure why people are still banging on about it.

They are banging on about it because the guy in charge at City, brought it in at united. Just like he brought in the European collection policy at united and replicated it at City.

When was the points system introduced?

Every Maine Road season ticket holder was given 1,500 points when they purchased a a season ticket at the new stadium then given 10 points for every home game Including Cup games and 20 for away games.

I've said it for years that a rolling 10 or 15 year period would be far fairer than a ballot or a system whereby a 21 year old fresh out of uni now would be waiting until their own kids were able to drink before being able to buy tickets for the big aways.

Not that it matters to me of course. I've been stuck on 12,000 for three years and don't live in the country so I'm fuxked whatever they choose.

you actually got 1000 for having a season ticket and 100 points for each year you had one previously upto 500.

Yeah and you got 10 points for away games not 20, and nothing for home games except if they were in the cup. Points for games were tracked back to Norwich away in Aug 2001.

That's all true, but when you started out you were "only" catching up on 6-7 years of loyalty points. A 16 year old now making that same decision to start going to every game possible has 14-15 years of points to catch up on. And that gap is obviously only going to get bigger and bigger the longer things stay the same. I just don't see how that is fair, logical, or healthy for the future of City's support.

I agree that a ballot of all available tickets isn't the way forward, but a rolling timeframe will inevitably have to be brought in at some point.

A simple solution would be to halve the number of loyalty points fans earned before this season. Die hard Blues would still be at te front of the queue and younger fans would have more chance of catching up eventually. People will still have got some reward for paying Platinum for tickets points (even though atoning ia just a money generating scheme).

Blues would have an international / away game City ID card to confirm proof of identity for spot checks on European aways.

For the spot checks why not get those who want to go to away games next season to put their photo on the reverse of their season card instead of other photos? That way no additional card required and to assist in fraud prevention; to ensure cards are genuine, season cards are already capable of being read via NFC.
