Utd had 25,000 empty seats in the Europa League. You example is not very good, and the prices were about £20 in the Stretford End.
You have a point about Cup crowds being smaller than league crowds which are regular sell outs, but how do you get bigger Cup crowds? By increasing the supporter base and the quickest way to do that is to expand the ground so more can go regularly.
I don't really see how anyone can argue that City wouldn't benefit from a bigger ground when you look at our crowds. As I mentioned earlier, the Arsenal game sold out more than 2 months before its due to be played.
Cup crowds are on the up on the whole. I always look back to the Reading Quarter Final in 2011. Biggest cup game in years and yet the crowd was something like 40000. Last few seasons we've regularly seen over 44000 for home FA cup games in earlier rounds. When you look around loads of kids there (the future). People underestimate the growth of our local fan base which has played second fiddle to the rags for more than a generation.
