first gigs

I was 32 before I was dragged to my first gig, never really appealed to me really, liked listening to music, but going to a gig was not on the list of my priorities,I'd go to football anywhere like, but anyway it was UB40 at the M.E.N arena 2003,and it was good,13 years later, last month I went to see The Specials in Blackpool, which really surprised me how good it was,and I'm going to see Madness next month at the M.E.N again, which should be a good night as well, hopefully
Madness were my first band I saw at the Apollo about 1983 with the joboxers as support have seen the about 4 times with my kids since great band.
If your going to see them your best bet is get to the gym and get fit for the half hour where they smash it with baggy trousers etc .
Don't want to die dancing :+)

Seeing Madness this weekend at their House of Fun weekender in Minehead. Been for the last 5 years so it's standard fare, we used to go for them but now it's just an excuse for a weekend away. To be honest they look bored with it all now and they are not the same since Chaz upped and left. Still, Craig Charles is always good to dance to.
You will have the new album to listern too mate ,is it any good do you know ?

808 state, Sugarcubes (Bjork) were the supporting act, she was fucking shite. Old G-mex arena i think.
I was there :) Unfortunately it was my second gig.

First was Simply Red (at the G-mex too) :(

It's ok. Nothing special. I like Mr Apples and Don't let them catch you Crying but apart from that it's standard fare. They play twice over the weekend, Friday night is going to be b-sides and other stuff so that will be good. Saturday night will be the usual greatest hits.

Looking forward to Craig Charles at midnight on Friday, he does a great soul set. Saturday night after Madness is The Lightening Seeds who I've never seen before so I'm curious.

Led Zeppelin. 28th January 1973. Kings Theatre, Edinburgh. May as well start big!

The set list was:
  1. Rock and Roll
  2. Over the Hills and Far Away
  3. Black Dog
  4. Misty Mountain Hop
  5. Since I've Been Loving You
  6. Dancing Days
  7. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
  8. The Song Remains the Same
  9. The Rain Song
  10. Dazed and Confused
  11. Stairway to Heaven
  12. Whole Lotta Love

It was the first and last rock concert held at the Kings. Zeppelins sound system was far too powerful for such a small theatre and when Bonham hit the first drum break in Rock and Roll it was like getting kicked in the chest. Ears rang for weeks after. I have dicky hearing in my right ear and I have always blamed them.

Seen the lightening seeds 3 times absolutely superb you won't realise how many hits they had .possibly one of the best "pop" bands ever.
Interesting fact to make you feel old the song life of Riley is about ian brodies lad as a baby,
He's lead guitarist in the band now playing a song about himself ,how cools that enjoy mate

I will, cheers. Just realised that they are touring with Madness this year. Dec 16th in Manchester if you are interested.

The Smiths at The Mayfair Newcastle in March 1984 when I was a student up there. Came away with my own gladiola in my jeans pocket after Morrissey threw a load into the crowd.

It was awesome and still in my top 5 gigs ever.

Buzzcocks supported by Joy Division @ Blackburn King Georges Hall circa 1978 - doesn't get much better than that for 1st gigs?

Point taken !! I'll try and get in some shape beforehand

First gig was Half Man Half Biscuit, June 1986, International 1
Swiftly followed by the Smiths, Salford University, July 1986. Saw them twice more that year, think the next band I saw was the Ramones at International 2 in late '87, then the Bunnymen / Primitives, Free Trade Hall, early '88.

Just to give you a brief idea ,this is one of the times I saw them at the academy at Liverpool ,the stupid bugger dad dancing in the white Benny hat is me.sorry about the quality but they get the crowd going
