Georgi Kinkladze

Slightly off topic but my mate was (presumably still is) friends with Ian Brightwell. He was playing golf with him once when Brightwell mentioned Alan Balls team talk was basically - you guys are all average players so when you get it just pass to Kinky and run into space - he will find you. Football genius management - 10 motivated players....

That clip is a great find

I was at the Newcastle game, he was brilliant. The was when they dirty twat Asprilla elbowed Keith Curle

And one other thing - all those moaning about Bravo, have a look at the keeper we had then. Immel, an awful excuse for a goal keeper

Tbf, we hadn't traded immel in for Joe hart though had we.

I bumped into him in Shrewsbury Town Centre (June, 97) whilst I was away on a course. Just wandering around on his own, seemingly not arsed about anything (unlike the prima donna's we have nowadays). Had a Top-Shop carrier bag in his hand iirc.

To be honest, he didn't often look arsed on the pitch, but could turn it on in a heartbeat and just ghost past three or four players and smash it in or play a killer pass.

Alan Ball made Mike Basset look awesome.

I had an argument with a blue a couple of years ago. He claimed kinky was better than Silva. Kinky was a an exciting skilful player in a shit team basically. Having seen him play many times, he was a wonderful player amongst his poor to average team mates. That said, he did go missing in games, and as someone else mentioned, we got relegated twice with him in the side.

He's my all time favorite city player, always will be, my first game was his goal against Southampton so kinda goes without saying really. You're right he did go missing in games, but to be fair he was in a shite team, how effective would silva be in that team surrounded by donkeys ? i'd love to see kinky in this team, I doubt he'd go missing half as much surrounded by quality, all the other teams had to do back then was put 3 men on kinky and they stopped us, the fact he still managed to run circles round teams on his own shows just how good he was if you ask me.

He was so skilful yet so frustrating I think. I preferred Berkovic tbh.

Yeah he was frustrating, but I think part of that he knew his team mates were gash so thought he could do it all himself, berkovic and bernarbi were amazing too, but its still king kinky for me.. If that lad had a decent manager he would have achieved far more than he did. Shame really I truely believe if he had been at team like barca or real, he would have been remembered as a world great, not that im complaining he got me hooked on city :D

Kids...jack 74 is clearly beyond help, but just in case any of you were wondering...

Kinky -
City - 106 games 20 goals (including 16 in 2 x 1st division seasons)
Derby 93 games 7 goals (including 4 in 1 1st division.
Georgia 54 games 8 goals
Honours - city player of year twice when we were the worst we've ever been.

Silva -
City - 198 games 35 goals 59 assists
Sevilla - 119 games 21 goals
Spain - 109 games 28 goals
Honours - 1 World Cup, 2 European championships, 2 premier leagues, 1 FA cup, 2 league cups, 1 copa del ray.

Let Jack74 be a lesson to you as to the dangers of taking drugs.

Don't get me wrong, I too loved Kinky...and whilst I don't want to put him down...some things just have to be put into context.

So, a history lesson and health education in 1 post.

You're welcome.

Remember sat chatting to a guy in the North Stand before a game. After about 10 minutes they announce the team and Kinky wasn't playing. At this point the guy gets up and says 'I'm going home, not worth it if he isn't playing'.

He made the right decision. It was a terrible game, just like the games we all remember!
