It's about self awareness fella and he doesn't have any, I wouldn't call a disabled person a dick head even if they were being one, it might not make much sense but it's all about how it would make me feel rather than anything else.
Your comment suggests to me that you would feel bad calling anyone a dickhead (which is a good thing), and that you would expect the majority of people not to enjoy being called a dickhead (which is also a good thing). The problem here is that if we're to accuse someone of ableism, then it's vitally important that both the relationship and intention can be fully justified. Indeed, many people with a disability will often strongly emphasise that they want you to see them as 'the person' not 'the disability'.

The hurt factor can only really be gauged upon the relationship between the people in question, and the intented meaning of the alleged insult/comment.

I completely agree with all that but if I feel worse calling a disabled person a dickhead I feel worse, I cannot change that, there is no logic to it.

I've just seen Charlotte Church has declined the opportunity to sing at Trump's inauguration amid claims his team are struggling to get someone in to do it.
Cue bluephil stood in front of his mirror doing do ray me. ;)

I'm disabled and you can call me what you want but if it's a reference to,mocking or an impression of my disabilty then i am going to go for you as i think most of us would,i can take the piss out of it myself and with friends but with anyone else no.What the orange **** did was impersonate the disabled reporter in a mocking and bullying way on camera,it is totally unexcusable

Karen I have a disability that for many years wasnt recognised, and is still largely ignored. I have had a lifetime of bullying and abuse, I can guarantee that if i put it out on here I would end up telling at least half those on here that would respond exactly what a thick self serving ignorant thick twat they actually were (hence I dont discuss it). Like you I take the piss out of myself (I am allowed to).

I dont know if this reporter has had a go at Trump in which case I have no sympathy with this chap, if I have a go at someone and they fire back using my condition as a weapon then I will take it. If I have not put myself up there to be shot at and someone does it I will fire back....infact in my case due to the fact that this is likely to involve a baseball bat I tend to keep myself to myself. If however I chose to be "out there" I would have to accept that is part and parcel of exposing yourself to lots of different people in different states of sobre or otherwise, different levels of intelligence and education.

There is much about Trump I dislike, but for now I am just grateful that we have not got the utter and absolute stupidity that Clinton would have brought and the very real danger of war with Russia that the stupid woman would have created.

He absolutely didnt have a go at him. It was all about Trump lying (shock) about an article that the journo wrote about 9/11, which Trump tried to use as back up to some further lies and offensive bollocks that he said. The journo protested and stood his ground. Trump, in response, mocked his disability by waving his arms around in a very unpleasant spastic manner. When the world couldnt believe what it had seen, as it so offensive, he further lied by saying that he did not even know the journo was disabled. Trump knows full well that he is, they know eachother professionally. He lied again, further proving that he was covering his ass about mocking him.

You should never have to take anyone mocking a disability, like i said you can call me whatever you want otherwise,in this case the reporter was doing his job and the orange **** has a very public go at his disability, making it very personal and very public,he looks the **** and rightly so.
Then he goes on twitter and is abusive to Streep,he is a powder keg and imo he will do more damage to the states than anyone would

What you say suggests that there is previous bad blood...not defending Trump at all, like I say I am just relieved we didnt get the alternative. As I say I myself have a condition that I have been royally abused over but regardless I am sick to the back teeth of all these cunts who get all offended and use their disability/condition/ethnicity/religion to scream "ME, ME, ME". Even worse are those who dont suffer a condition or who are not of a different ethnicity/gender/religion/sexuality but kick off on behalf of those who are in these categories. Boring boring cunts.

If the bloke had got under Trumps skin and showed him up for being a **** and provoked such a reaction it seems to me that it was job done without him needing to bleat about his disability, or at least that would be my view were it me.

I totally agree Karen. I wasn't particularly referring to the Trump incident, but if that's what he did then I'm absolutely in agreement with you.

I agree with you Karen regarding the disability issue...100 per cent, but you know as well as I do that will never be the case.

You know full well even without knowing my problems if I wrote a thread on it on here I would get some incredibly ignorant and offensive responses...sadly.

I agree with some of your views on Trump, but dont agree he will do more damage to the states than a few thousand nuclear warheads that may well have been Hilarys legacy.

I do believe that Trump may have a much needed input into world politics and approach some of the big problems in the Middle East, the Korean peninsula and others in a different way, which is much needed. Powder keg? yes you may well be proved right in some respects, and again I must stress I dislike him a great deal, but the alternative was unthinkable....even today American troops are positioning on the Russian border, Hilary would not have reversed this, Trump may do and needs to sharpish.

I am not aware that the journalist did "bleat" about his disability. What happened was captured live by the world's media and the journalist didn't need to say another word. All that's happened since then is that Trump has been telling lies to wriggle his way out of it, which he has failed to do except for with his most fervent admirers who didn't have a problem in the first place.

Must admit I havent really followed this story but we are in agreement that once the journalist drew the reaction, he had no need to say anything else at all...job done.

Supposedly it started with Trump's lie that he'd seen thousands of Arabs in New Jersey celebrating 9/11. The only evidence for that was a couple of (second hand) reports a few days after of Arabs watching and partying (no-one said thousands). The Washington Post had a go at Trump for his lie (on a par perhaps with Clinton's "false memory" of coming under fire). The Post's disabled reporter Kovaleski was one of those who at the time reported arrests of people allegedly celebrating. Years later he was asked, and said he did not remember anyone saying thousands or even hundreds of people were celebrating. That prompted Trump's arm-waving act - but supposedly he often does that to indicate when opponents are flustered.

If you believe he was not mocking the guy's disability, you are indeed as delusional as the Donald. If you really want to waste 10 minutes (I did), feel free:

His defence that he always does that when mocking people is particularly pathetic as it implies that he is pretending that anyone he's mocking is physically handicapped as part of his attempt to mock them. It's the sort of things kids do until they get a slap or grow out of it before they're 12.

For anyone wishing to draw a conclusion. Here's the clip in question, without any media or public comment/hyperbole. It's only a short clip.

If we presume that Trump knew that the reporter had a disability, does it infer that Trump is mocking his disability? You can make your own mind up folks...

He didnt mate. It wasnt like that at all, in fact the journo did nothing at all. There was no bad blood or fall out in that way and there was no attempt at drawing a reaction. What happened is this: Trump said that after 9/11 there were muslims in New Jersey openly rejoicing. He was obviously called out for that because it was an outright lie. To back himself up and try to get some credibility for being an utter ****, he quoted a 15year old article that the journo in question had written at the time. The journo said, his article said no such thing and Trump had misrepresented it. This was fair enough. Trump, being the defensive thin skinned thundercunt that he is, went on the attack, and clearly mocked the journo. (Just like he has in recent days to, variously: Meryl Streep, Arnold Schwarzenneger, etc.) The journo had nowt to do with this other than to defend his article against this prick misrepresenting it to justify an outrageous lie he made.
and then, after he clearly mocked him, he denied that he even knew the journo had a disability (so was clearly innocent and didnt mock him, as he didnt know). That is a lie also. they knew eachother professionally.
Anyway, long repetitive post. Im just saying that the journo was seeking to draw a reaction, all this happened around him really.

The senate hearings on his picks are live now. Even republicans given trumps pick for Attorney General through the grinder.

But the critical issue there is: there is no presumption to be made at all. Donald Fucking Trump knew that man had a disability, FACT. They had known eachother for years and years, the journalist once even spent a full day with Trump to cover the unveiling of an airline venture he once started up. So, once that is known, there cannot be any conclusion other than he was taking the piss out of the man. Which is fucking unforgivable in my book, and disgraceful for anyone to do, let alone a leader who needs to be a role model to people. Hes a ****.
