Maradona embarrassment

Who brought Rooney into this FFS? What has that got to do with my comment? I'm a tad disappointed with that reply. I'm not trying to be argumentative but I didn't ask for comparatives. I talked about certain players (Maradona et al) and you deflected into no-mans land. No point continuing this pal.
Tbf you only really talked about yourself in the OP, Maradona was mentioned in the title though.

The answer, as the fella said in post 2, is that he won a world cup for his country, that buys him all sorts of liberties.

And FIFA is paying him something like €10,000 per day as an “Ambassador”?

Yeah, football isn’t corrupt at all!

He is a bloated, over coked, over served drunk who has become a caricature of the fallen idol he once was to some. His comments after the Colombia game were a disgrace, but as soon as he was reminded who his paymaster was, his social media person saved his arse with a few words Maradona would never ever say.

He is irrelevant to football in every way except as a footnote to his long dead history a world class footballer who soiled his reputation by being not only a cheat, but a liar.

This!

I think Maradonna is a fine choice as an Ambassador for FIFA. As a governing body it is important to choose someone who can encapsulate the values instantly. Diego does this visually and verbally. A superb reflection of FIFA.

Most people (especially the Argentines themselves) will wish to remember him as the young, slim, immensely gifted player who lit up the World Cup all those years ago. His outrageous skills had all of us on the edge of our seats, and although he did indeed cheat against us he also scored an absolute worldy in the same game.
Fast forward to today and the man is a bloated shambles with a deadly addiction that will, ultimately, destroy him. That's how we see him - the polar opposite to how the majority of his countrymen see him.

He's the current Marmite of the football world. Personally, I have always admired his incredible skills and his close-ball control. But I've despised the man himself for many a long year.

In the studio Zabba said when prompted he thought him funny.

I have admiration for imo the best footballer of all time. Respect went out the window for him when I heard he tried to prise our Kun away from City. Respect and admiration is reserved for Kun and our other City stalwarts.

When Buzzer told Sky Sports that we would go to the swamp and take them apart we lauded him for it. Many non blues thought he was an embarrassment. He was right and we were right, but he still doesn’t get invited back on Sky sports.

It’s all perspective.
