West Brom (h) post-match thread

We’re not good enough to turn it on and off and leave it to the last 5 minutes to show a bit of urgency, but unfortunately the penny hasn’t dropped with Guardiola yet.

He’s running out of excuses and it’s the same script every week - the only difference is that the poor results are coming against worse teams. The contract extension was completely undeserved and it will prove to be a costly mistake.

Trying to think of reasons why this season is so poor. Game after game. Not buying the no pre-season Pep, we’re in December. Can only think no crowds having a bigger impact than we thought. Not saying the players aren’t motivated, but we help create the urgency. A roar goes up, you can see the effect. That is the most noticeable change, we can’t have gone this dross so quickly.
bang average players in midfield (rodri)....
Gundogan being 2 steps below the quality of David Silva.
A left back who is stealing a living playing football
Astriker who despite all his hard work offers no goal threat whatsoever

No pace, no energy lots of sideways passing

Pass, sideways pass, pass, pass, backwards pass, pass, pass, sideways pass, cross, goal kick. Our season in a nutshell.
The only bit you missed is somewhere in the middle of all those passes is “give the ball away, win the ball back, pass, pass, pass, square, backwards, pass........”

Your’e right, that’s been our season. On the rare occasions we have got the ball to the opponents bye line we have scored. Don’t we learn anything from this ?

Positives tonight were that Gundogan played very well and we only looked dangerous when he had the ball. Kev for all those who think he's struggling laid two chances on a plate yet again both were wasted. Eddie, Dias, Foden all did ok.

Negatives were once again Pep not changing it until 70+ mins which was stupid given how we had drawn a blank. No good him moaning about stoppage time when we had wasted so much during the game - typified by Mendy not trying to keep the ball in and letting it trickle out for a throw which allowed them to get set and then he lost possession from the throw - you would struggle to see a part-time player do that, shocking. Not using Ferran who likes to take players on and could have been the x factor tonight. Both fullbacks and Ake were far too negative and played with cement in their boots, and once they got in a good position constantly picked the wrong ball. Rodri had his worst game for a while. Raheem and Gabriel totally ineffective and should have been taken off, both played as if they couldn't care less.

Simply put there is no way - even though we are still in the hunt - will we win the title this year. We have some serious issues to address and our players and the coaches are 100% to blame - not VAR, not refs, not the schedule, not the 5 subs rule. Man up and put in more effort, if you don't want to do that pull a Danny Mills and fake an injury. It needs to change fast and some need a long, hard look at themselves.

am going to take the pain again and watch the game again or the highlights

but from what i watched live. how can pep send out a team of 2 holding midfield and play 4 in defence ??
most of the game WBA had 10 men behind the ball and city and pep still had 4 players marking nobody on the half way line ??

like i said am going to watch the game again and see ? but its not good enough and i truly don't understand pep idea's in what he is fearing from WBA going forward ??
Please don't do it mate.

Refusal to upgrade the strike force will continue to haunt us just like it did last season. From four strikers in 2011 to 2 in 2020. Over reliance on some players is baffling
