Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

New data shows that the neighbourhood around the Etihad has undergone the biggest 'gentrification' of any part of England since 2019 - experiencing the largest improvement in deprivation score of any area in the country.

That reminded me of this article I read a few years ago:

Good article again from City Ed, need a station at the stadium

The line that is pictured on the map is the pre-existing metrolink. I'd be amazed if they ever built an Underground line parallel to the tramline out to the Etihad Stadium.

That video repeats the point that I made previously that the existing transport networks in Manchester serves the City centre preferentially, and hence the Etihad, because the tram and train lines focus on the centre.

Opposite Mary D’s.

Perfect if you want to live close to the Etihad.

Caddick Construction has reinforced its presence on Great Places Housing Group’s Innovation Chain North (ICN) framework with its appointment to deliver a new affordable housing scheme in Manchester.

Talking to a lady the other day who has lived in Collyhurst all her life. She told me she lives on the ground floor of a high rise flat, but has been told she must now call it an apartment.

The site opposite Mary D's.

Hoardings around the site, cabins, and a digger on site.

Tuesday night before the CL, Leverkusen, match.

Apparently Les Dawson was from Collyhurst. A random fact. I got that from this article on the BBC. I don't know much about Collyhurst so I googled it https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpw1qedjl01o. I have lived in Manchester City centre, and South Manchester e.g., Moss Side, Hulme, Vic Park, Withington etc.

There's a Youtube channel called Aidens Eyewitness that carries lots of interesting videos about the clash between new builds and the needs of locals .

Why do you think this is the future other than a few gas holders it’s not the same at all

By the looks of this drawing similar style building. For the club to make money, they need to area to be a destination 365. Kings Cross has become a destination because of the right use of buildings and attractions, it's a shame the university never built there building

The hotel will be there mostly to serve visitors to the COOP Live. What else would you have the site to attract visitors @WRicko 365 days a year

Why don’t we put our neighbours new sparkly stadium on the collar site, when we’re away they can use the facilities. :)

Ha!

United’s new stadium is nothing more then a pipe dream atm, and there’s no guarantee it will even be built in time for the Women’s World Cup, but BBC United are pushing it in their headline.

Of course, City’s 62,000 seater stadium, with a 401 room, 4* hotel, connect to the Etihad, onsite parking for 1000’s of cars, on site hospitality on the Collar site and Etihad Campus, and the Coop Live Arena, suitable for other uses on a match day, only get’s a mention in the list of stadiums put forward, which will be accessed and reduced down by FIFA officials. Not to mention the CFA across the road for teams to use.

Kings cross looked very residential nothing like the early sports / education / theme park type suggestions even now the supposedly random extra buildings on the site in the planning app for the new stand looked like they could be parking facilities, hotel, another arena etc

Not sure the buildings even look the same other than being new towers same as what ? The arena ? the hotel ? Do they have fins ? Looks like they have more stone ? Or same as Local residential blocks ? That have nothing to do with us ? Or same as ASDA ?

I hope we don’t go down the what up lots of residential blocks route like Wembley or kings cross let’s have some fun do something special

There won't be any residential blocks on the collar site, they want a 24/7 destination whatever that may entail. All around the site, yes, just not on it.

I am thinking about the impact of Manchester city growing eastwards. UMIST is being slowly redeveloped. Offices for 7,000 people on the old Great Ancoats Retail site are in the pipeline and there are less advanced plans to build 4,500 homes in 'Holt Town'. If all this proceeds it will create a corridor out towards the Etihad.

If you look at the pictures, they match up. I agree with your points.

The site is not big enough to match either Wembley or King's Cross; the development of Holt Town will help with the residential part.

Hopefully, with Holt Town, they copy what has happened with the Elephant & Castle part of London

Looking at the framework documents for East Manchester, the Council wanted the Ehihad Campus to have an entertainment district with a cinema, etc

For the site to become a 365 destination, it requires improved transport links to support it.

With the COOP live opening up, that opens the door to more hotels and restaurants(2). Just look at any UK arena; they typically have hotels and restaurants nearby.

The old gas holder site at the top of Mercer Way would be the perfect site for a Transport Hub, which features multi-storey car parks

Number 3 looks like a smaller arena or convention centre, or it could be a COSM, the new Imerserve sports theatre

Number 3 is also a square with buildings surrounding it. Number 4 could be anything

Hopefully, they will announce something shortly, and it will be something fun, as you said @WRicko
