Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Ha!

United’s new stadium is nothing more then a pipe dream atm, and there’s no guarantee it will even be built in time for the Women’s World Cup, but BBC United are pushing it in their headline.

Of course, City’s 62,000 seater stadium, with a 401 room, 4* hotel, connect to the Etihad, onsite parking for 1000’s of cars, on site hospitality on the Collar site and Etihad Campus, and the Coop Live Arena, suitable for other uses on a match day, only get’s a mention in the list of stadiums put forward, which will be accessed and reduced down by FIFA officials. Not to mention the CFA across the road for teams to use.

Wonder how you approve so many venues that are not even built ?

There won't be any residential blocks on the collar site, they want a 24/7 destination whatever that may entail. All around the site, yes, just not on it.

TBF, we don’t know yet. Outside of the club and the people working on the Collar site proposal in secret, we don’t know what is planned. Highly unlikely, as you say, but there could be housing/apartments built on part of the Collar site? Hopefully we’ll find out after the North stand expansion has been completed?

Never say never I guess, but I can't see it myself. The site is fairly compact and it's stated aim has always been as a 24/7 destination, I'm presuming the other mooted hotel will occupy part of it. There's plenty of other housing and residential developments going on around the area.

The collar site would be perfect for a virtual theme park, with rides similar to some of those at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi this would be a 365 facility with no worries about the weather and fit in with the visitor attraction mantra

The biggest issue facing the entire area is the lack of transport links; there is a need for better-connected transport links.

You can see from football games at the stadium that many fans leave at the 85-minute mark in the game.

Some kind of rail link is needed to take fans away from the stadium after the game, or the Coller site developed so fans stay after games

That's a culture thing, you have multiple monorail lines taking fans to all areas of Greater Manchester every five minutes and you'd still have loads leaving on 80mins to "beat the rush".

Although you are right, the Etihad Campus needs much better transport options.

I was lucky enough to be in The Tunnel Club yesterday and trying to get an Uber over an hour after the game was a f**kin nightmare - traffic was still nose to tail on Ashton New Road too
The Bus away from the Ground was horrendous. We are at the South Stand, managed to get on one as was raining. Never went more than 2 miles an hour. Took about 45 mins to get past Ancoats.

Mind you platform 13/14 at Piccadilly wasnt much better either!! The transport links are a shambles
