27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

Nunes is inferior to Walker as a pure defender, but he is a better football player. In one season he can contribute more assists than Walker or Zinchenko in 3 seasons.

Is he brilliant defensively? Or do people just say that about him and project this onto him? The stats certainly doesn't support the claim. He seems to be special for a fulllback In the air. But other than that, the stats shows a generally average player.

Granted, to the naked eye, he is very athletic and has that English competitiveness. But he is mostly just a young prospect with lots of senior caps. But statistically he has never been particularly impressive.

Here is a comparison to last year's Nunes, Hakimi and 2 other young prospects... He was mostly decidedly inferior to the others outside of aerial duels...

He's turned into one of the best right backs in the league the last few months and that's a credit to himself and pep for persevering after a rocky start.

Agree, it’s like his mistakes are worse than others.
O’Reilly is amazing and was deserved MOM but badly misread the pass for their first goal. But fought back and dominated his side.
Some players aren’t allowed mistakes, this fella is one of them. Walker who’s one of the best right backs of the last 30 years made plenty of silly mistakes. But he didn’t let them affect him.. Nunes seems to be getting there.

Should be a lesson to many fans as well who are so quick to write players off. There's a couple I can think off who we may well be similarly lauding in 6 to 12 months time
