Yeah. Couldn't afford to keep him. Pretty much par for the course at the time.

That was a desperate season in my early youth watching City. I remember a couple of weeks after the Wolves hammering Bert was sent off against West Ham at Maine Road for booting the ball at the ref. It was debatable whether or not it was accidental or in sheer frustration at bent decisions. Some things don't change:-)Lost to Wolves 8-1 Wolves scored all 9 goals got relegated that season

We played Barnsley on the day I was born 14/12 1946 . We won 5-1, how could I not become a Blue?5th December 1949. 3 days after I entered the world. Derby County 7 City 0. Ouch.
Bert's first season and he always maintained that it had been his worst performance for the Blues. Fortunately things improved after that :-)

I was there on Donald Francis travel Droylsden coachesNorbiton Junior was born while City were playing- 4.40 on 17March 1984, the 5-1 defeat at Craven Cottage. I’ve always been grateful to him for sparing me that
He was signed with the cash from the Denis Law transfer. He was fair player but found his level with Stoke City. From what I recall as a young lad, Peter Dobing was a very good player. In a better team than City's at that time he could have been a star.
fair play mate City and villa went down that season, I think I know City did last game West ham away20th September 1986, 0-0 at home v QPR.
Manager Billy Mcneil left for Villa on the same day.
