Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

It's run by the club, the idea is like the Nest at Notts County, who use to run this for away fans visiting Nottingham Forest

Notts County are a lower league club doing everything they can to make money - I don't blame them for that. They are also welcoming the fans turning up to play their City rivals, so would be like us welcoming whoever were playing Stockport, Bolton, Oldham or any other Greater Manchester team. The advantage Notts County have is their ground is a few hundred yards are from Forest's, so perfect for an away fan looking for a safe place for a pint.

If we're going to build another bar, why would we aim it at less than 10% of the fans at the stadium?

Watching the Women’s FA Cup loads of praise to Brighton before going on to us. One thing mentioned was them developing their own women’s only Stadium. Could we fit one on the Campus ? Would increase attendance. Was hoping they would end up playing games at The Etihad but it’s getting bigger and bigger so don’t think that’s practical. Starting from scratch could allow us to build something amazing. That’s caters to families and women and all different groups more. Could make a really interesting design that’s was technologically advanced and environmentally friendly. Perhaps a retractable roof ? Then more concerts entertainment and conferencing facilities ?

Have any of the rumored designs looked like they have anything like this ?
What would this do that Joie Stadium currently doesn't do? Would be pretty easy to add another 3k - 5k seats if/when needed.

Because fuck the away fans.

I want them walking through narrow and dark alleyways full of uneven paving and puddles, before getting to a single turnstyle taking forever because of overzealous security checks. Once through there, they arrive at a single concession stand that has run out of chips and only sells warm Heineken.

Does that make me a horrible person? Probably.

Brighton want a minimum of 10k at the new stadium so we would have to add similar to Joe which I assume would be hard work. I also suspect correct me if I am wrong but because it’s a small stadium there isn’t really anything other than the stands ie what are the intervals spaces like ?

Are you a theatre goer by any chance.

Basic stadium with no concourse on three sides not sure what public facilities on the east stand but there are club offices and hospitality
Looking at the design it would be relatively easy to increase the capacity

You could add a 3k stand behind the goal with improved facilities without even thinking about it. Just bring down and rebuild one of the behind the goal stands (this would be cool, to be fair, I just don't think demand warrants it just yet). Facilities are okay. Food stands, some corporate stuff. The food is better than the Etihad, though queues are bad for big games. That could be developed. It was a "best in class" second stadium a decade ago that has hosted women's euro games and youth finals, Brighton are trying to catch up to us not the other way round. Also probably worth saying that Brighton doesn't have nearly as many mid-size venues as Manchester has, so there is some logic to them trying to get some music stuff.

The head of Populous, Christopher Lee, said Manchester City are doing a stadium district in Manchester

Sports-anchored entertainment districts—often called Stadium districts—are booming across the US, offering year-round dining, nightlife, and shopping adjacent to major sporting facilities. Notable examples include The Battery Atlanta (Atlanta Braves), L.A. Live (Crypto.com Arena), and Ballpark Village (St. Louis Cardinals). [1, 2, 3]
These integrated micro-cities feature some of the most popular sports and entertainment hubs in the country: [1]
  • The Battery Atlanta (Atlanta, GA): A 1.5-million-square-foot destination surrounding Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. It features the Coca-Cola Roxy music venue, high-end dining, and the Omni Hotel. [1, 2]
  • The Deer District (Milwaukee, WI): Located next to the Fiserv Forum (Milwaukee Bucks), this 30-acre district features an expansive outdoor plaza, beer gardens, and year-round community festivals. [1, 2]
  • L.A. Live (Los Angeles, CA): Situated in the heart of downtown adjacent to the Crypto.com Arena, this massive complex houses the Grammy Museum, Microsoft Theater, and massive nightlife venues. [1, 2, 3]
  • Ballpark Village (St. Louis, MO): Developed in partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals next to Busch Stadium, this multi-story district offers Sports & Social St. Louis, Budweiser Brew House, and rooftop viewing decks. [1, 2, 3]
  • Texas Live! (Arlington, TX): Positioned directly between the Globe Life Field (Texas Rangers) and AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys), it features a sprawling, multi-venue dining and concert space. [1]
  • Titletown District (Green Bay, WI): Located right across the street from Lambeau Field, this development features a public park, tubing hill, the Resch Expo center, and high-end dining. [1, 2]
These Entertainment Districts have transformed The Stadium District Boom into a multi-billion-dollar evolution in American urban planning. [1]

In this video, they go on about the mass transit for trams

We should do the same for trains, as Etihad Campus has outgrown the trams

For the regeneration of East Manchester, which includes Holt Town

TRANSFORMING EAST MANCHESTER

This expansion of the stadium and other developments acts as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of East Manchester

We all know this area surrounding the stadium requires redevelopment and needs an anchor motivating factor to bring in mass transit, to bring in businesses, and to bring in people to restaurants and retail and mixed-use and stadiums can do that. And the bigger the stadium, the easier to get to, the better off that area becomes

Well done, Leeds United, for making a video
