    VAR thread 2022/23

You spoke too soon. We just had an absolute HOWLER in the Morocco France match. How in the world was this a foul on the Boufal?? And worse yet, a yellow card?? This was a CLEAR and OBVIOUS ERROR! Yet the referee wasn't sent to the monitor. This incident shows how broken VAR is. Had the...

    VAR thread 2022/23

It is become abundantly clear by now that VAR is wildly unpopular. Managers, players, fans, former players, all continue to speak out against it. Due to VAR and all the problems associated with it, football is been taken into an ugly direction and the sport as a whole finds itself in an...

    VAR thread 2022/23

I understand that, but tribalism continues to enable VAR. When it comes to VAR, we really need to put aside our competitive angst. The future of the sport is more important than the affiliation of a voice trying to save the sport from this plague. Do I have to find neutrals to speak out against...

    VAR thread 2022/23

Terry Butcher calls for VAR to be scrapped "It's ridiculous. It takes the fun out of the spectators, because they want to celebrate. It takes the fun out of the players, because they want to celebrate." "It's just, it ruins the occasion."

It's our common quest. Football needs to be rescued, and I can't do it alone. I need your help and support. Please join me in saving the beautiful game.

They've had over 4 years to fix it, yet still the same problems persist. It's been given long enough yet it continues to fail with the same problems from 3-4 years ago, It continues to be a blight on the sport and it needs to be removed from the sport. So we can get back to normal football once...

    VAR thread 2022/23

I was asking for you to explain the new process in your own words. It's the same process. Semi-Automated Offside Technology - ‘Enhancing the flow of the game’ Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT), used officially for the first time at the recent UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and...

    VAR thread 2022/23

Well VAR continues to have a long and futile effect on goals being scored. So as it stands, VAR will continue to plague the sport and drive fans mad, making my stance that the system needs to go much easier to articulate than those like yourself trying to argue that VAR should stay. I'd rather...

What is different or better about "semi-automated" offsides vs how it was done before?

    VAR thread 2022/23

I sure have, but my mind is not closed. I am trying to have a substantive discussion about VAR and why it needs to go. I respect your ability to disagree and argue for VAR. Whether you want VAR to stay or not, there are many areas that we can agree on. The "clarification" you speak of is a...

    VAR thread 2022/23

It's the same BS process that's always been, now with some word salad to make it seem like they're making process. It's still blokes in an ivory tower freeze framing and drawing lines.

    VAR thread 2022/23

He was not clearly offside. The lines are not reliable. Even if he was, you still have the other issues associated with the play. The fact that the defender clearly pushed Kane forward into an offsides position, and the fact that the deflected header appears to have hit the defender's hand.

    VAR thread 2022/23

The defender didn't need to make an "intentional" touch of the ball in order for the phase to be reset before VAR was introduced. The law change that you are referencing was a VAR-induced change to the law. Lets not act like that's a legitimate or traditional part of the law. That's wording that...

    VAR thread 2022/23

Spurs fans are very passionate and they got caught up in the moment subconsciously forgetting that VAR was there for that brief moment of euphoria as they went mental celebrating that goal, until the reality of VAR set in. In many other cases goals in general aren't being celebrated property due...

    VAR thread 2022/23

No they don't. It's guesswork at best because the camera is not symmetrical to the offsides frame. It's at an angle so the lines drawn upward involve guesswork.

    VAR thread 2022/23

They just need to end this VAR experiment. So we can celebrate goes once again and have normal football moments. Instead of this waiting and waiting for more controversy.

    VAR thread 2022/23

Not only that, but they had to try and measure whether Kane's forehead (or knee) was ahead of the ball, which is impossible given the angle. The dotted line drawn up to his knee and the grey line through the ball and through his forehead were an absurdity.

    VAR thread 2022/23

No it hasn't. See my post #2,563 on page 257. Before the current FIFA President, "deliberate" was not in the offside law. In the old days, any deflection off of a defender (deliberate or not) would reset the phase and in that situation the deflection would play Kane on.

    VAR thread 2022/23

That OR to implement a margin of error, take both the frame before and after the VAR snapshot frame and if any of those frames show him onside then then he would be considered on. Because as we know deciding which frame to pause it at to draw the lines is guesswork at best, and the drawing of...
