Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

If that's the case, how was he able to manage a team that finished above twelve other teams last season?

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

There are several shades in between passing it out from the back or hoofing it up the pitch, it doesn't have to be one or the other. I can just keep repeating it if it helps.

...and by buying loads of good players who were coached by the best in the business at playing that way. What you're describing works for City, it won't necessarily work for other teams, including Arsenal.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

There are several shades in between passing it out from the back or hoofing it up the pitch, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Teams that aren't capable of playing it out from the back are going to be sussed out fairly quickly and other teams will just pick them off. It won't be much...

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

They should have been happy with 8th then. That's their level. Unless they've spent all that money to overhaul Burnley.

Aye, i remember the patience he showed with Joe Hart. Worked with him for hours on the training ground to improve his distribution.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

Thirteen other teams couldn't overhaul Burnley. Were they all managed by 'dinosaurs' as well? Everton fans have delusions of grandeur.

He signed Theo Walcott at Everton didn't he? He's hardly a hoof ball merchant.

I suspect that Okocha, Djorkaeff, Anelka, Hierro, etc, would beg to differ.

You'd be wrong then, they finished 8th. Of the seven teams that finished above them, they could have only have been realistically expected to finish higher than Burnley, who had an exceptional season.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

You don't finish in the top eight of the Premier League for four consecutive seasons, qualify for the UEFA Cup twice and reach a League Cup final just by being lucky.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

What makes you think that the players Arsenal currently have can play that way? Wenger liked his teams to pass it around and even he didn't insist that they played it out from the back. There's more than one way to play football.

Remind us where Everton finished last season.

Did the commentator just say that there had been over 100 punctures?!

    The Championship Thread

Great tribute to the Chuckle Brother and life-long Rotherham supporter, Barry Chuckle, who passed away last week. Rotherham and Ipswich supporters exchanging 'from me to you' chants at the game yesterday.

    2018 European Championships

They absolutely chucked it away. From first to fourth with the very last dive of the competition! The commentator was right when he described it as an 'absolute shocker'. All they had to do was not fall in!

    2018 European Championships

I wish they'd put the Union flag back on the vests rather than that shite British Athletics logo.

    2018 European Championships

That could have been gold for GB in the 4 x 400m relay if the bloke on the second leg hadn't forgotten which lane he was supposed to be aiming for!
