    City’s New Kits

It’s not St Mark’s, it’s Gorton AFC. The earliest known kit associated with the club is the black shirts with white cross pattee that Gorton AFC wore in 1884-85. There wasn’t an official St Mark’s badge either - anything you see that looks like a St Mark’s football badge has been fabricated this...

    Oasis reunion

It feels like an appropriate time to re-release this…. A few years back I interviewed Noel Gallagher. You can listen to it for free here: https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/07/05/the-noel-gallagher-interview-2/ The interview was a hour long and was the week before our first CL final.

    Old Maine Road photos thread

This one… https://gjfootballarchive.com/2023/05/30/maine-road-100-day-13/ I’ve posted lots of Maine Rd images on there but that one is definitely something special.

    Old Maine Road photos thread

That’s part of a bigger photo I found and then used in Farewell To Maine Rd. It’s shortly after the war and the bigger image shows few vehicles on the streets and is quite atmospheric, remembering a time when few had cars.

Football City, Art United: Manchester International Festival

This all reminds me of when I worked for the Halifax Building Society in Hyde in 1985. The region’s Business Development Officer announced he had a NW region competition for those opening LittleXtra accounts (kids accounts) to win a day at OT where they would meet Bryan Robson and have their...

9 years ago today: Welcome Pep & a New Badge

City had a whole series of badges designed based on the elements fans chose. I don’t know how they reached their final selection though.

9 years ago today: Welcome Pep & a New Badge

I did a series of presentations on the badge and wrote articles for those on how the badge evolved. Much of the material on its history at the consultation came from the material I did. Maybe I could write an article for www.GHFootballArchive.com soon? On the ship - it’s not about the ship...

9 years ago today: Welcome Pep & a New Badge

Announced on that day but in use as the official badge from 9 years ago today. From then on the eagle badge was no longer the club’s official emblem.

9 years ago today: Welcome Pep & a New Badge

There was a whole series of consultation activities, including a series of talks that I presented that were free to attend. I went into the history of every element and some aspects, such as the history of the red rose on the badge, were explained in detail. Other Manchester logos, symbols etc...

Football City, Art United: Manchester International Festival

Yes. I saw something a few years back where some Utd supporting journalist claimed he was a Red and not long after I attended a meeting at City where one of the staff was under the impression the journalist was right. An example of how influential some in the media can be when they spread...

Football City, Art United: Manchester International Festival

It's worth highlighting too that the famous 'Going to the Match' was described as Lowry's impression of the day when Burnden Park held its record crowd which was in 1933 for Bolton v City. Lowry was a dedicated Blue of course (loads of stuff about him refusing to go to OT; not forgiving United...

    City in the 1930s

If anybody's interested, I've started to post a series of articles on City in the 1930s on my website. Some will be subscriber only but others will be free to read. Today's feature is a 2,500 word subscriber article on the 1936-37 title winning season...

FA Youth Cup final 29th April 1986

It's funny how some dates resonate. 29/4 probably was the first repeat success date (though I've not checked and there'll be Central League, Manchester Cup etc. successes too that you could argue we should include). It could've been repeated much earlier as the 1933 FA Cup final (which we lost)...

One for older Blues: Remember the CITY FC flag that used to fly at Maine Rd?

I’ve found this photo from November 1972. It’s hard to work out but there doesn’t appear to be enough flags for all 22 Div 1 clubs. I know the Union Flag was included too. I’ll keep looking for better images and hopefully we’ll confirm. I can’t help thinking 74-75 would’ve been the season to...

One for older Blues: Remember the CITY FC flag that used to fly at Maine Rd?

If I remember right they were national flags but I’ll do some digging. As you say it was a long time ago but I used to stare at them from the Platt Lane opposite.

One for older Blues: Remember the CITY FC flag that used to fly at Maine Rd?

That was a different style. They used to have a Manchester City flag and a Junior Blues flag, but not the earlier City FC flag. They used to have quite a few flags on the North Stand roof when it was first erected.

One for older Blues: Remember the CITY FC flag that used to fly at Maine Rd?

Yes, I mention that it was moved to the Scoreboard End when the Kippax was roofed. Then it was ‘taken’ by rival fans apparently.
