It is a very secretive procedure, carried out by individuals who believe that it is a cultural norm within their community. It is cloaked in the language of purity and becoming a woman. It is very complex and difficult to put a complete stop to.

All school teachers are now trained to recognise potential signs that it may be a possibility and to report it. The secrecy of it is a barrier, undoubtedly. It will take generations of realisation that the practice is abhorrent before it becomes less of an issue.

Do these woman/girls never have to go to the doctors for check-ups, surely they do like normal kids and it should be evident at a quick glance that a girl had been butchered and then questions can be asked.

The girls and women go to doctors from the same cultural background, it's all in house. When that isn't the case Doctors must just keep schtum about it.

The authorities know all about it but they genuinely wont intervene, the only successful prosecution last week was on a witch not one of the prescribed protected religions. These people abuse children under the noses of the social services and NHS and nothing is done about it.

Saying it's difficult to stop seems to be an excuse to do nothing.

be a fucking damn sight easier to combat by getting laws in place - something that Sir Christopher Chope thinks its his job to prevent.
