“City Matters” fan committee

At our meeting yesterday, the club accepted that the Madrid match day membership sales were a mistake.

They made the case that they followed the same criteria as Madrid last season and interestingly, that we have never had match day qualifying criteria based upon attendance - any that has existed has been solely due to security. That said, me and a few others pointed out the obvious about Bayern sales, and the general demand for match day sales all season. Appreciate that none of this solves what happened.

Nonetheless, we have agreed to work with the club to develop an approach to match day tickets qualifying criteria.

Whilst we have some to do that, there is the potential that the FA Cup Final and Champions League Final (if we get there) could go down to member sales. In reality, it’s highly unlikely that United will go to match day members. However, to avoid a similar problem to Madrid, they have asked us to put some options forward pretty quickly.

Happy to hear everyone’s views. The way I see it, we could:

• Leave as it is
• Base it on ticket points
• Base it on attendance in the FA Cup
• A blend of the two above

It may be too complicated, but I would base it on FA Cup attendance first (trying to replicate cup scheme membership for season ticket holders) and then have points brackets within.

Edit: Also worth adding that our number one priority, is to add a point around not being eligible for a ticket if you buy membership after the game has been pulled out of the hat.
Any discussions on why the supposedly agreed 60% of away tickets being made available via loyalty points isn't being adhered to for the bigger games like Brentford?

I have no argument with anything you have written but I am wondering how the club prioritises “day trippers” ? There has, without doubt, been a huge increase in the number of ”tourists” attending in recent seasons and they do indeed seem to spend large amounts of money the Club Shop. However, I’m guessing they buy their tickets on the OS. These tickets are available to all match day members on a first come first serve basis, so is this simply a case of “legacy fans” choosing to stay away and watch the game on TV ?
I don't think there are many on here, who are against the clubs vision to grow the brand by welcoming the "tourists ".
Where most people who have supported the club loyally over the years have a problem is that hundreds off away tickets are being syphoned off to give to these people.
By all mean's grow the brand but do it at the Eithiad .

I wasn’t aware that “tourists “ were getting away tickets. I have written on here a few times about the challenges of getting away tickets but I always assumed that those with a huge number of loyalty points or the 18-25 year olds were getting them all. As a seasoncard holder with only 3000 points I’ve pretty well given up trying to get away tickets because it seems the only ones that get down to my level are the likes of Southampton on a Wednesday night with an 8pm kick off.

That's a fair comment. I also think the club should do everything it can to lobby other clubs and the PL for increased away allocations. I know it wouldn't help for Bournemouth and Brentford but it's a start. The minimum should be 3000 spaces where it is possible.

That should be a prerequisite to going into the premier league.
Irrespective of your capacity you should be made ro give the away club 3000 tickets if requested.
Bournemouth have done nothing in 5 seasons to increase their capacity.

Think the only way to blend them would be to have an either/or option.

- 5k points or been to every home fa cup game this season
-4k points or been to 2 fa cup games

Something like that.

Agreed. The rules should require clubs like Brentford and Bournemouth to improve their stadia over a set period. The minimum capacity in the PL should be 25,000. Improvements should be tied to the huge Broadcast revenues handed out.

Luton could go up next year. Their ground looks a right dump.
