1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

Bernardo did speak publicly, he did a big interview in the times in 2022 when he said he realised after the pandemic he wasn’t happy with his life in Manchester and told the club he wanted to be in Portugal.

Trafford didn’t say he was unhappy. He said it wasn’t what he expected going into the season and he just had to focus on playing as best he could in every game he gets and improve.

He also didn’t say he wanted to move. He said “ Who knows, it’s football. Every day, let’s take it a day at a time and try and work as hard as I can and whatever happens, happens.”

I think your comment sums up the Trafford situation quite well to be honest. A lot of people have decided he said things he quite simply didn’t say.
That's fair, I didn't know Bernardo said that. While Trafford hasn't said he is unhappy, he obviously wants first team football and knows he won't get that there, so will want to move.

see I just don’t get this

Why does everyone think Donarumma is some God of Goalkeeping? He isn’t

This “presence” people speak of - its been worth jack shit in quite a few games/situations. He is crap with the ball.

I must be one of the few who thinks Trafford should be the one the club go with.
By the way, were you in the away end at liverpool? I’m not here to demean Trafford, but from the other end in real time I can’t think of any other keeper in the world who was saving that deflected shot from MacAllister. It was that good. Jack shit fucking lol

NHS Consultants - a pittance?
'NHS Consultants in England have a basic annual pay scale ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 (as of April 1, 2025), determined by years of service and experience. Starting salary is £109,725, increasing to £116,182 after 3 years, £119,490 after 4, and £131,058 after 8 years. Which a lot less than football players

Trafford is a very good goalie, but yeah you’re on your own with that take pal.

We should let Trafford know we want to keep him by only allowing him out on loan, say £3-5M per season, and reupping his contract.

Exactly this. The club did him dirty. He’ll go to Chelsea and smash it, take over for Pickford and the media will go crazy.

I’m not sure what good backup ball playing GK there is out there.

Still find it crazy because Trafford was an upgrade on Ederson’s shot stopping and with time he could improve his feet which are still better than Donnarumma’s.

If we win big trophies I guess it will all mean nothing.

Feel so bad for him.
Was thinking this, another one to Chelsea and big mistake by us

fuck me of all the journalists & reporters Sam Lee is not the one who shit stirs FFS
He did 10 years ago and over egged the Aguero/Pep stuff to try and get a name do himself. It really put me off him but that was a long time ago and nowadays Sam comes across as one of the few good guys in the media to me.

Like I posted the the other day it’s strange he gets so much hate on here, it’s totally unnecessary.

Folk should listen to his podcast with David Mooney, it’s excellent. Mooney is also better on that one than Blue Moon Podcast IMO. It’s a lot more grown up and less of the ‘hospital radio’ vibe BM has.

Grow up mate. The timing sucks for him but he’s a professional footballer on more money than any of us could ever dream of, and if he does move on his stock has only risen.

He signed for us and then we jumped on the opportunity to sign another player who’d just won the champions league, is captain of Italy, oozes leadership and can stop the ball going in the back of the net better than anyone on the planet. That’s life. No need to be a fanny wipe about it.

The amount of hand wringing about Trafford on here is mental.

Who would you suggest? I think donnarumma is quality btw, I’m just worried we regret losing Trafford. Not saying he is the better keeper.
I don't know, im not paid the big bucks or have a massive backroom staff of expert scouts across the globe to find the next one should Trafford leave. Let's be honest replacing players like D.Silva, Yaya, KDB, Aguero and Kompany we all thought was an impossible task but here we are rebuilding a different team. So I hardly think losing Trafford who lets be honest is ok, could become brilliant but right now is no Gordon Banks so it doesn't worry or bother me one iota. I'll let the club deal with it as I've got more things to concern me. There's always the next new shiny toy in the window and I've no doubt one will come along.

You’re right.

He might be a bit miffed about what happened, but surely from a proffesional perspective we are a bit silly if we sell him on. Loan him out for two seasons to a team that wants their GK position sorted. Sort of like what Bayern did when they had Nübel waiting in the wings for Neuer to drop off (except he never really did). Most people see it as a foreglne conclusion that he is off for good in the summer but I will be very disapointed in Viana if he can't strike a deal for a season or two.

Donarumma is 27.
He has probably got another 10 years at the top of his game.
