1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

The club had to move to Get Trafford before he went to Newcastle, they likely had a plan, likely involving Ederson, a phased hand over which bought everybody time, but Eddy wanted out and the best keeper in world football was available so the opportunity was too good to turn down. No brainer.

If Gigi was already here, Trafford wouldnt have come as he would have understood he can’t replace him or challenge for the shirt. Timing of the signing doesn’t change a thing and it’s malicious by anybody as nobody had a crystal ball. There will be no grudges and we should set a fair profit generating price and let him go… and we will.

Trafford is the best English keeper and it might be harsh if he was promised to be the No 1 keeper at City. However, he was shaking like a shitting dog when he started during the beginning of the season and it made our defence nervous.

He has sorted out the nerves in recent game and is in great form. It's a good problem for City to have. He's ambitious and it's a world cup year, completelyunderstandable that he's frustrated. . He's had his say, as long as he's not toxic in the dressing room, then it's fine.

He’s got a 12% win record in the PL and concedes an average of 2 goals per game.

Why on earth does he think he should be a starter for us, mid level quality at best, he’ll do well to ever start a cup final again in his career after the Carabao he should be happy with the opportunity.

Very good goalie.
Still learning his trade.
Playing for one of the best clubs in the world.
2nd choice behind the Worlds Best Number 1.
Don’t necessarily agree with speaking to the media but it’s part of the role as a footballer.
I also understand his frustration.
Finish the season.
Then go, if that’s what you want, but keep your powder dry in the meantime.
I’ll keep on cheering you whilst you’re here James.

Not for a goalkeeper it isn't. He's possibly the best English goalkeeper at the moment, but not getting enough opportunities to prove it in a World Cup year compared to Pickford, Pope, Henderson, etc.
All he can do at City is wait for domestic cup games and hope that Tuchel is watching / getting positive reports.
Ffs L/P we all know Pickford is bobbins ;-)

Think he will be off in the summer and you can’t begrudge him. Timings just haven’t worked out for him at City. Will be a good prem goalkeeper for someone I’m sure!

Seems a good lad and can't blame him for not being happy with the situation if we made him think he was coming in as number 1. Good performance yesterday though so hopefully we can win the cups and get decent money for him at the end of the season.

Exactly this. The club did him dirty. He’ll go to Chelsea and smash it, take over for Pickford and the media will go crazy.

I’m not sure what good backup ball playing GK there is out there.

Still find it crazy because Trafford was an upgrade on Ederson’s shot stopping and with time he could improve his feet which are still better than Donnarumma’s.

If we win big trophies I guess it will all mean nothing.

Feel so bad for him.
Mums always feel bad for their children. ;)

I don’t understand why so many in our fan base think Donarumma’s this untouchable GK. I really don’t.

Gone in the summer.

My take, we wanted Trafford to compete with Ederson. As the latter wanted to leave but couldn’t seem to get the move. Club played it safe bringing in a top quality home grown keeper.

The team then suffered a lot of problems and Donna also became available.

No one is to blame. It’s just one of those things. A world class keeper became available. No doubt when Trafford leaves he will slag us off, very good keeper but only one can play. Donna has steadied the ship and we are so lucky he came.

Also shows, Trafford ain’t up to taking the gloves off Donna, in fairness not many could.

The toys out the pram is him now seeing the reality and looking a move.

We should be able to make a profit. Use it to buy a new midfielder.

I don't have a problem with what he said to be honest. We can't criticise players who are ambitious and don't want to sit on the bench and actually want to play, while also criticising players like Phillips who are happy to collect wages doing nothing for several years.

He didn't criticise anyone, or stop performing. The situation is that the club has decided he is not good enough to be our number one so he plays in games where no matter what he does he won't replace the number one. So there is no chance of him becoming number one. He has seen the writing on the wall and wants out and the club don't keep unhappy players. He's off in the summer.
