Completely agree - I think he’s lacked any real conviction in his play so far, and he seems to be playing within himself.

Looks like he’s bought into this idea about needing 12 months to settle in a bit too readily. A bit underwhelming so far.
I thought he would bring in a hungry attitude but he’s played it cool so far

And early Sane, and early Bernardo, and early Rodri... there's a theme developing here.
early Cancelo, early Gündogan, early Stones... I agree.
Although I think he shares even more with Mahrez than the others. Not only are they both inverted wingers without conventional blistering pace. They both came in with huge, club record fee, price tags, and both came from the Premier League. There comes added expectation to adapt immediately when you are both coming in with "Premier League experience" and especially when you are a record signing as well.

Criticisms like "he's too predictable", "too slow", "doesn't fit in with City's style", and "too expensive to sit on the bench" could easily be taken from either Jack Grealish of now or Mahrez of 2018.

Tbf Bernardo Silva would be another good comparison, albeit with less expectations.

Mahrez is still spending quite a bit of time on the bench, I really wanted Grealish but I must admit he is starting to worry me. We spent £100m on him and I don't think he has earned a place in our best front three yet. When we eventually buy a striker that is one less place in the front 3 three. I realise that it is a squad game and he will always get game time and it's early days, just wish he would produce a bit more. I get a buzz every time I see his name on the team sheet, but am ultimately left underwhelmed by his performances.

I’ve gone back & reread your original post that I responded to, so I’ll apologise now for misreading the liability point. You’ve not said he’s a liability, so I need to learn to read & comprehend much better in future, my bad :)

However, I think you also need to reread my post as I don’t believe my post was insulting towards you

It’s never an argument on here with me my friend, just a discussion & reading your last post, I really don’t think our opinions differ greatly, so pop round mine & we can hug it out x

(He was pretty poor tonight)

Haha cheers mate. All good in the hood :)

He might as well have spent the first half on the bench (or in Manchester) he was practically useless.

He got more involved after Sterling came on and played well on the left, so they got swapped, meaning Sterling went central, and became anonymous (and I don't much like him on the left anyway), a Pep masterclass on getting it wrong twice (rare I know), but he has form for making a bad situation worse occasionally.

His 2 shots today were not of bad quality - but not excellent shots. But both got blocker/deflected by the defence. The choice and timing were not greedy either. (compare to last game)

He was 2nd of the distance covered today in our team behind Zinny (3rd on the whole pitch) ahead of Gundo KDB and Ferna. (Yep Mahrez a bit behind everyone else...) Dropping deep frequently to help to push ball up the pitch. Around 16min he dropped deep and made a good pass when surrounded by 3 to KDB - resulted in a good attack and finished with KDB shot blocked by keeper. This is perhaps the only "good" city style attacking flow in the 1st half. (You can hear Pep shouted "well done jack" from the background).

I am surprised to see people saying him anonymous in the first half because actually by the half time, Grealish has more procession than Foden and Mahrez. You probably miss him in the box because he had to drop deep to help move the ball up while Ferna and Gundo have an off game - keeping giving ball away and the defence line was a mess thanks to that.

However - I still think he had a bad game because I expect more. Give him a 5/6 out of 10. His connection with KDB is better. His combination play with Gundo always failed - not on the same bandwidth.

Yep I want to see more of him but I am not worried like the rest on the forum about him not making the attacking front 3 or whatever. We play enough game. Gundo ages fast and I am afraid that he will play less game time with his repeated back injury. That means we will need more rotation with the midfield. Bernado might drop deeper and Grealish take an ACM role.
