Jessie Marsch spoke before the game and specifically said that stopping the width was something they had worked on, with a view to stopping Haaland. The pathetic posts about Grealish being conservative completely ignored the fact that on nearly every occasion in the first half that he received the ball, there were three defenders all around him. Regardless, he continued to be a good outlet for the team and ended with a couple of assists.
Also probably not a coincidence we started losing control when Pep subbed him, Foden wasn't really doing anything.

Shite at finishing though. Should be equally paired with more of a goal scorer on the right wing, like Alvarez, who has freedom to join Haaland.

As someone said, we do need 2 goal scoring threats and can't fully rely on Haaland for every chance.

Yes but apart from costing £100m what does Grealish offer ?

He was solid overall, just shame he wasn't more clinical in the first half.

On another night, could’ve had 2 goals and 2 assists but only had the latter. Thought he did as instructed. When he was cutting in to the middle, there wasn’t an outlet to the right or anyone to lay the ball to but he kept at it despite the misses.

What a wild thread, do people actually comment on players performance during a game? Fucking wild, atleast wait until the game is over to take out your pitch forks. Animals.
Monday was the first time in a while the thread didn't explode when Almiron did something impressive...

I think we just have to accept he’s not a goalscorer. He wasn’t necessarily a goalscorer at Villa anyway. he’s just not a great finisher and that’s the way it is. He will get the odd goal now and again.

But if he can start notching up more assists like he did tonight then that’ll do for me.

At least he was getting into some good positions tonight, which can’t always be said in the past, so hopefully he sticks a few away now and again
