Knew this thread would be a bit “tasty” tonight.

My opinion, is I like Jack and think he’s a great player who is having a torrid time at City.

He‘s never a left winger, and what makes it worse is having a right footed full back playing behind him who never goes on the outside for him to reverse a pass to.

Consequently he does the same shuffle and inside ball nearly every time.

That said, tonight he made space going inside to get a shot away twice and both times he took too long to get the ball out of his feet due to a lack of self belief and then just rifles it in to the defenders shins.

All in all, not good at moment, but I also remember thinking this way 12 months ago but thinking Pep is just integrating him as he isn’t a left winger, so I’m equally surprised that Pep continues to hang him out to dry asking him to play a role he patently can’t do.

He won five corners tonight because he was prepared to have a go so i will not knock him for that , but he is lacking a cutting edge around the box at the moment , his final ball or shot has to improve or i can see the likes of Alvarez and Palmer deservedly being give some games .
The£100m fee shouldnt get him a place in the team it is immaterial , he has to do more on the pitch and with consistency , there is an exceptional player in there somewhere just hope he can prove it this season.

He's playing too slow, too within himself. It's Raheem Sterling in his season under Pellegrini.

Needs to find a way of getting himself and the ball moving faster, being a bit less predictable.

You see the difference with Foden, he zips it about, asks for it back and scraps for everything.

Pep usually manages to correct these issues. Jack's done his 12 month apprenticeship, time to step up now.

I would question whether he actually wants it enough.

I’m not suggesting that he’s not trying, or that he’s somehow cheating us. But I do wonder whether deep down he thinks he would have been happier just staying at Villa, staying in Birmingham and playing week in, week out.

Regret is a strong word but there’s definitely something going on with his head as he’s a better player than he’s showing at the moment.

I like him, really want it to work out but I’m getting fed up of him cutting inside and giving the safe pass 99% of the time.

The 1% he doesn’t do that, he creates a shooting opportunity and, for some reason, the ball is always(!) stuck under his feet when he shoots. No idea how it’s not been picked up on and stopped.

1 it is the worst performance I saw him in City shirt

2 IMO it would be in all parties interest to sell him back in the coming winter transfer window. Slippy will not last long.

3 If Pep wants Cancelo to be the main left back, sell Grealish. If Pep wants Grealish to be a left winger, buy a left back or start Gomez. They are making each other's life very difficult and it does not help the team.
