10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

It's not a case of winning. Most on here want Grealish to do well, I know I do. Pointing out any criticism or praise is neither winning or losing anything. And this thread like all the other player performance threads is there to discuss players on whether they're doing well or not.
Given that he has hardly played in forever, it seems a disproportionate discussion.

Anyway, will leave you to it. It doesn’t get anyone anywhere.

Like I said, these player threads are here to discuss our opinions on players which I will when I feel the need to.

Grealish isn't as nailed on a starter for big games as he once was. I agree that he'd most probably start him over Doku in another CL final but I think it's mainly because Pep knows Doku is a good impact player to bring on who can make things happen, just like he did in the FA Cup final. I agree that Jack gives us more control, I also agree we're less open to dangerous counter attacks and he creates for players around him. I also think Jack should be more creative for himself by beating his man, by crossing the ball and by being more direct on goal.

Doku makes mistakes and can not hold onto the ball as well as Jack but he's not as experienced. But he's less predictable, tries to make things happen and more exciting to watch, and watching exciting football is a big reason why I pay my money and go through the turnstile.
So we need both and they both bring different qualities, and if neither get played centrally then it’s because thats whats decided, which is all I’ve ever thought, all this talk that one is needed more than the other is silly. I doubt Pep or anyone at City are considering letting either go. When I go to games I never think about who is playing , just go to, watch the team.

I'd be surprised if Grealish were still here after the summer window.

He'll be close to 30 then. He's on astronomical wages and doesn't offer enough to justify that. His injury problems may get worse after he turns 30. We can still get about 40-50m for him in the summer, which, imo, we are likely to do. Then we can invest the money in a new winger.

Now, if Grealish hits his best form and stays fit, then we may decide to keep him (but then he will have more potential buyers...).
