10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

Source is fbref and the comparison is to all the other wingers and attacking midfielders in the top 5 leagues and the CL.

And goals, assists and shots on target don't need references, we know how many goals or assists he had. The point was that he contributes to winning plenty even without scoring goals and assists.
Ok but presumably bottom 2 or 3 per centiles on those measures. So not just a mixed picture but one of big contrasts.

I take your point though about bringing in the less obvious metrics. They show he does contribute something - which the less rabid among us kinda feel intuitively - just not in the headline grabbing areas.

That said, no goals in 2024 is a major shortcoming however it’s dressed.

One or two players need a reset next year if they are still here. I’d be happy enough for him to stay and give it a go.

I don't wish him gone. What I wish is that he revives his City career; what I wish is that for the remainder of the season he can show us the kind of player he was at Villa.

Stop conflating hate with criticism. I love Jack as much as everyone; if his effectiveness on the pitch matched his infectiousness off it we'd be talking about one of the best to pull on our shirt. But he's running out of time and excuses.

A central stint would be nice to see, but we all know it just isn't going to happen.

I am not confusing anything .

The posters who regularly about Grealish, and you seem intent in becoming one of them, are merely throwing stones deliberately as if it makes their feeling become even more substantive about his character, personality, ability, etc.

He can't show us the player he was at Villa if he isn't allowed to play in the same manner and with the same feedom. He is fulfilling a role which Pep has asked him to perform, which is alien to the manner in which he played at Villa.

It is the irrational digging out of him as an individual which offends. I feel he is wasted, but after winning as much as he has with City, perhaps he appreciates that.

It is those constantly giving him grief who are the issue, and they all know who they are.

And despite you being so knowledgeable regarding my observations, I am not conflating anything. The cunts who constantly criticise anything and everything are the issue imo.

It still amazes me how many defend grealish. I get his a likeable character if you are into that kind of thing but he hasn’t scored in over a year and this stat is dammning. If it where sterling or mahrez they would be hounded out the club by the same fans who defend grealish.

You don't need experiments to prove he increases the probability to win, you just need to look at the analytics:

When he's on the pitch, the team plays better. Creates more chances, allows less chances - through all of the mechanisms there are for the creation and prevention of chances. As I said, most misunderstood player in the game, and that is because of the general obsession with boxscore stats rather then deep analytics.
Any City forward player would have good stats - especially when you are that selective - imagine if i just chose to pick the greeen out of this and it is for Doku - a player with immense potential but hasn't really hit any dizzy heights yet . . Far superior stats to what you have for Grealish on most metrics you carefully selected with some green (but not enough for an attacking player) where it really matters, but still way more than Grealish . Grealish is in his prime and should be doing much better and be creating and scoring goals.

Just about any player for City is going to be or should be in the the top 90th percentile for the things they are meant to be good at, as the team overall, is generally in the top 95th+ percentile if not the very top percentile ! Anyway would love to see Jack get a bit more game time, given the drop off from others - as this is his time to shine, at least relatively to others in the the playing 11!

Maybe thats evidence that Doku is also underrated around here, rather than that the stats are flawed. As I said a few times, people forget how much he contributed last season because he has stagnated (or possibly even declined) this season. The problem with fbref stats is that they give the stats for the last 365 days rather than by seasons.

I watch Doku with my eyes and he’s had about five good games for City and a year and a half.

Then your eyes are not telling you the truth because over the course of a season he consistently creates a lot of chances. Maybe his bad games are not as bad as it seems to you.

I'd say Grealish creates less than Doku directly, but more indirectly, even though both are similar in their ability to get the ball into dangerous positions which teammates can exploit.

That’s not some spurious random statistic. Look at all the other names in the list; other than the surprises of Pereira/McNeil, everyone else is as you’d expect.

If we can just get Grealish fit, get him a good run of games in the team (for me it would be in attacking midfield) and our other players get their shooting boots on, and we will all have a different attitude towards him.

Find it mad how he always finds half a yard to get fouled but never half a yard to take a decent shot or get a cross in. He’s been great in some big games for us but he needs to contribute more goals and assists

If he’s creating 3.47 chances for every 90 minutes he plays^, the best in the PL, that’s on our other players for not putting the ball in the net more than it’s on Jack for not getting the assist.
